Meeting of the Faculty Qualifications Committee

Members Present: Michelle Haggerty, Garth Johnson, Steve Jackson, Paul Kinsey,
Karen Reiss.
Members Absent: Utpal Goswami.
1. Chair Michelle Haggerty called the meeting to order at 9:03.
2. Michelle welcomed committee members, and she called for public comments: no
public comments were offered.
3. Approve the September 9 Meeting Minutes: On motion by Paul Kinsey, seconded by
Karen Reiss, the minutes were approved as written.
4. Action Items
4.1 Review and Make Recommendations on Emergency Equivalency to the
Minimum Qualifications Applications as Submitted: The committee reviewed
and made recommendations on the following Emergency Equivalency to the
Minimum Qualifications applications:
•
Michelle Cartier – Film Studies: With the statement of support from the
subject matter expert (SME), the committee agreed that the applicant meets
the equivalency to the minimum qualifications for the discipline. The
recommendation to approve will be forwarded for Senate consideration.
•
Gynden Kaufholz – Economics (DN): The committee agreed that the
application needs an argument for how the applicant’s coursework meets the
minimum qualifications for the discipline and a statement by the SME.
Michelle agreed to contact Michael Dennis and ask him to review the
application and submit a statement of support or nonsupport.
•
Robert Rohde – Ecology/Environmental Science (DN): While an equivalency
argument and a statement by the SME were submitted, the application packet
was not available for committee review. Consideration will be postponed
until the packet is available.
5.1 Review and Make Recommendations on Equivalency to the Minimum
Qualifications Applications as Submitted:

Gayle Abramson – Business: After reviewing the application, which included

an equivalency argument and statement by the SME, the committee
unanimously agreed that the applicant does not meet the equivalency to the
minimum qualifications for the discipline. SME Chris Gaines joined the
meeting and was informed of the committee’s recommendation to deny
approval.
5.2 Review and Make Recommendations on Minimum Qualifications Applications as
Time Allows: The committee reviewed and made a recommendation on the
following Minimum Qualifications application:
•
Michael Adams – Environmental Technologies: The committee agreed that
the applicant meets the minimum qualifications for the discipline.
•
Marybeth Arago – ESL (MC): The committee agreed that the applicant meets
the minimum qualifications for the discipline.
•
Julie Bayon – English (DN): The committee agreed that the applicant meets
the minimum qualifications for the discipline.
•
Sarah Ben-Zvi – English: The committee agreed that the applicant meets the
minimum qualifications for the discipline.
•
Jeffrey A. Diehl – (1) Health Care Ancillaries and (2) Emergency Medical
Technologies (MC): The committee agreed that the applicant meets the
minimum qualifications for both disciplines.
•
Daniel Duncan – Environment Technologies: The committee agreed that the
applicant meets the minimum qualifications for the discipline.
•
David Franklin – Biology: The committee agreed that the applicant meets the
minimum qualifications for the discipline.
•
David Franklin – Interdisciplinary Studies/Environmental Science:
Committee member and SME Karen Reiss agreed to review the application
and resubmit it with a letter of support and discipline clarification.
•
James Home – Addiction Paraprofessional Training: The committee agreed
that the applicant meets the minimum qualifications for the discipline.
•
James Home – Sociology: The committee agreed that the applicant meets the
minimum qualifications for the discipline.
•
Christopher Jelinek – Fire Technology: The committee agreed that the
applicant meets the minimum qualifications for the discipline.
5. Announcements/Open Forum: No announcements or open forum items were
presented.

6. Adjournment: On motion by Karen Reiss, seconded by Garth Johnson, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:58 a.m. However, the meeting was reconvened at 11 a.m. (all
members were present except for Steve Jackson) to allow for discussion with the
SME regarding the recommendation to deny approval for the Equivalency to the
Minimum Qualifications application for Gayle Abramson in Business. Following the
discussion, on motion by Garth Johnson, seconded by Paul Kinsey, the meeting was
adjourned a second time at 10:08.
