CATALOG DESCRIPTION -- The catalog description should clearly describe for students the scope of the course, its level, and what
kinds of student goals the course is designed to fulfill. The catalog description should begin with a sentence fragment.
A skill-building course focused on supply, delivery and application of water in wildland
firefighting. The course explores pumps, correct water use, basic hydraulics, and equipment care
and includes a field exercise that requires the student to participate in the set up, operation, and
maintenance of pump equipment.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES –This section answers the question “what will students be able to do as a result of

2. Identify different engine types and pump types and describe their advantages and
disadvantages.
3. Deliver water to a specified destination with adequate performance for equipment being used.
4. Explain hydraulics and its relationship to pump operations.
5. Trouble shoot pump failures.
6. Describe the role of the pump operator.
COURSE CONTENT –This section describes what the course is “about”—i.e. what it covers and what knowledge students

1. Maintaining communications between the Fire Engine or pump operator (responsible for the delivery of
water) and the Firefighter (responsible for providing water necessary to conduct a safe initial attack
operation).
