EARLY TENANCY DEPARTURE NOTES As you are leaving your University-managed accommodation, we would like to provide some advice about the condition you are expected to leave the accommodation in when you vacate the property. An end of tenancy inspection will be carried out after your departure and where necessary, a cleaning contractor will be employed to bring your room up to a satisfactory standard. A charge will also be made for any damages. Notification of any charges will be sent to you within 4 weeks of your departure. Cleanliness of your room - Your room should be clean and tidy throughout. From experience we have found that it is false economy to use cheap brands of cleansers; proprietary brands may cost more money, but will save you time and money in the long run by working more efficiently. Pay special attention to the following areas: Paintwork – Wash all paintwork including doors, window frames and sills, door frames and tops, light switches and skirting boards with a solution of ‘Flash’ or similar. This includes the areas behind furniture. Black mould should be removed from window frames and sills using a weak bleach solution. Beds – Pull out beds and clean thoroughly behind and under. If a mattress cover was provided this should be laundered and left in the bedroom. Please note, if any stains are found on the mattress that were not recorded on the original inventory you will be charged for a replacement mattress. Carpets - These should be vacuumed thoroughly. If your vacuum cleaner does not have attachments, a hand brush or damp sponge may be used to clean the edges and staircases. Heavily stained and marked carpet should be cleaned professionally, please contact your Property Manager for further advice if necessary Dusting – Clean all furniture and horizontal surfaces using a spray polish. Windows – All windows should be cleaned using a window cleaning solution (ground floor – inside and outside). Ensure all windows are locked and the keys are left in the room. Drawers, cupboards and storage areas – Please ensure that you remove all belongings and rubbish, including carrier bags, bedding and coat hangers. Clean areas thoroughly. We cannot be held responsible for any personal belongings left in the house by mistake. Waste Paper Bins - These must be emptied and cleaned thoroughly (inside and out). Check surrounding wall and floor areas and clean as necessary En-suite Bathrooms - Clean all areas, using a bathroom cleanser as instructed. Discoloured grout and ceilings and walls affected by mould during your tenancy should be cleaned with a solution of bleach. Ensure that plugholes are free of hair. Remove lime scale from shower hoses and controls. Bath mats, pedestal mats and shower curtains should be washed and dried before your departure. Clean the toilet bowl using a bathroom cleanser and the brush provided, pour bleach in and leave it overnight. If lime scale has built up around the rim and in the bowl a specialised lime scale remover should be used. Make sure you do not forget to clean the outside of the pan, cistern and outlet pipe & floor behind. If there is only a communal bathroom, please ensure you remove all of your belongings. Kitchen – Any cupboards used for your own personal use should be emptied and cleaned inside and out, including the tops. Please ensure you remove any of your food items from the fridge/freezer. Rubbish – Please ensure your rubbish is not left inside the property. This includes crockery, bedding, electrical items etc as these cannot be left for the current tenants or passed onto new tenants. There may be a charge for the collection and disposal of rubbish that cannot fit inside the outside bins. Keys and brass discs - Must be returned to the Accommodation Office within 48 hours of the end of your tenancy. Utility and other bills – You should take meter readings of the gas and electricity meters and contact the relevant utility companies to obtain an up-to-date invoice. You should make an arrangement to pay your share of these with the remaining tenants. The same applies to telephone and /or internet charges. Thank you for your cooperation.
