BSCMissionStatement
OurMissionistoimprovetheretention,
persistence,andsuccessofbasicskillsstudents.
FundsrequestedfromtheBasicSkillsInitiativeshouldincludeoneormoreofthe
following:
1.Promotetheuseofeffectivepracticesindevelopmentaleducationfor
administrative,studentservices,andinstructionalprograms.
2.Provideprofessionaldevelopmentregardingeffectivepracticesindevelopmental
education.
3.WorkwithInstitutionalResearchintrackingbasicskillsstudentsfromentryto
completion.
4.Assessandevaluatetheprogramsdesignedtoimprovestudentsuccess.
TheBasicSkillsCommitteemaybetargetingspecificprojectsinagivenyear,basedonthe
currentyearCertificationReportandactionplansubmittedtotheChancellor’sOffice.

Note: Basic Skills funds are not eligible to supplant existing staff or operational funding.
Basic skills funding will not exceed three years and project proposals/planning must include
how future funding will be institutionalized.


shouldbeincludedwherepossible;benefitscanbeestimatedat10%oftotalsalary.

