Review of meeting notes from September 12, 2012
Recommendation 7 task: Systematic evaluations of all activities by the Professional
Development Committee to ensure links to the college mission and goals (show these on the
calendar for each constituent group) {The evidence for this needs to be posted on each
group’s web page: PDC, Senate Fac Development, Comm Ed, Distance Ed; evidence from
sabbatical process) (Ahn)
a. The “Mission Statement” of the PDC has been adjusted to conform to the other
committee “Operating Statements.” Please review the following revised operating
statement and approve or modify.
Operating Statement: In support of the college’s mission and Objective 1.6 of the
College of the Redwoods Strategic Plan (Support staff and faculty development
and instructional innovation), the Professional Development Committee provides
a comprehensive professional development program to include assessment of
needs, planning and evaluation of activities.
III.
Evaluation of responses from Classified Fee Waiver Report: See spreadsheet titled “Fee
Waiver Report.” Note: the process for qualifications, application, and approval are outlined
in the classified collective bargaining agreement, so changes to those items must be
negotiated. However, the PDC should review the applicant feedback regarding how the
courses/trainings met their goals and/or improved performance in their current jobs. The
PDC can recommend improvements not related to bargaining issues and/or recommend
process improvements for future negotiation considerations.

Our task moving forward is to invite feedback from the 4C/SD membership and those involved
in Professional Development on the wording of the vision statement. Would you please reply to
this email with your input on this draft of the vision statement by Monday, October 22nd, so that
we can compile your ideas and share them at the next meeting of the statewide advisory group?
VISION STATEMENT:
To support the mission of the California Community Colleges and to promote an
inclusive statewide and local learning culture, all personnel will have ongoing
opportunities to develop and expand the skills and practices that influence
students’ ability to complete their educational goals.
