DEVELOPMENT CRITERIA NARRATIVE & DOCUMENTATION Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer College of the Redwoods Community College District CCC‐501 Narrative Requirements Criteria A. Appropriateness to Mission 1. Statement of Program Goals and Objectives The Associate in Arts Degree in Kinesiology for Transfer will prepare students to complete their baccalaureate degree in Kinesiology at a California State University. Kinesiology Program Learning Outcomes Explain the anatomical structure and the physiological mechanism of the human body. Apply the techniques and principles of the components of fitness and demonstrate knowledge in at least three areas of physical fitness. Identify career and / or educational options in physical education, and formulate an action plan to successfully pursue and attain those options. 2. Catalog Description The student may earn an Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer pending CCCCO approval. The Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology at a CSU campus. Students completing the Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer degree are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. Students transferring to a CSU campus that does accept the Associate in Arts in Kinesiology will be required to complete no more than 60 units after transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree. To meet the requirements for this degree the students must: 1. Complete 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following: a. Complete the California State University General Education‐Breadth pattern (CSU GE Breadth); OR the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) pattern. b. A minimum of 18 semester units in the History AAT degree 2. Obtain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0. To complete the AAT degree in History, students must earn a C or better in required courses for the major. A P (Pass) grade is not acceptable for courses in this degree. This Associate of Arts degree for Transfer may not be the best option for students intending to transfer to a particular CSU campus or to a university or college that is not part of the CSU system. Students should consult with a counselor when planning to complete the AA degree for more information on university admission and transfer requirements. This program is designed to provide students with an introduction to the academic discipline of Kinesiology and the scientific study of human movement. The AA degree provides a foundation in the fundamentals of human anatomy, physiology, and exercise movement. A bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology can lead to careers in exercise science, athletic training, research, personal trainer, and as a teacher and/or coach. 3. Program Requirements 4. Based on Model Curriculum The Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer is based on curriculum generated by Senate Bill 1440 compliant Transfer Model Curriculum. 20. Licensing or Accreditation Standards No additional licensing or accreditation standards will be required for the Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer. 21. Student Selection and Fees No separate selection process or additional fees will be required for the Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer.
