At the beginning of January 2008, the Mathematics Department was down three full-time math instructors due to several retirements: Michele Olsen retired after the fall semester of 2006, Sandy Vrem retired after the spring semester of 2007, and Sandra Taylor retired after the fall semester of 2007. Because only one of these positions was replaced with a full-time position, the Mathematics Department has had a 20% decrease in the number of full-time faculty at Eureka over the last 3 1/2 years. Table 6.01 (Faculty Load Distribution) in the 2009-10 Program Review shows that the full-time/part-time ratio continues to decline. In 2005-2006, full-time faculty taught 65% of the load, and this percentage decreased to 56% of the load in 2008-09. Data for 2009-10 shows a further decrease to 49%. In addition, in both 2008-09 and 2009-10, a majority of the full-time mathematics faculty taught an overload (note: there is an error in the table in the 2009-10 Program Review). The FTES by FT/PT Faculty by Academic Year table and Sections Taught by FT/PT Faculty by Academic Year are not very informative in considering our request. I'm not sure how the FTES table is calculated and the Math Lab FTES could be throwing this data off. The Sections table is definitely not relevant since full-time faculty are listed for multiple sections of the Math Lab though they are not the only ones who work in the Math Lab, as well as, DE/ITV courses have multiple sections (Del Norte and Mendocino sections as well as a Eureka section) though they are essentially part of one course.
