Office of Instruction and Student Development Update‐Week 10‐October 30, 2015 Veteran Artwork Thanks to the efforts of Crystal Morse of the Veterans Resource Center and Shannon Sullivan of the Art Department, artwork by the Veteran and artist Jesse Albrecht will be on display in the Administration/Student Services building for Veteran’s Day through Fall semester. Mr. Albrecht pursued an MFA in ceramics after returning from active duty, and in his words “…allowed art to capture the overwhelming cultural, mental, and physical experience of Iraq.” Program Review Instructional and student development areas’ program reviews are nearly completed, submitted, and available to the Program Review Committee. This process is critical for continuous quality improvement, resource allocation, and staff requests. A total of 30 instructional programs and 11 student development areas submitted program reviews this week. Thanks to the many staff and faculty who contributed their time and effort to this institutional exercise in participatory governance. Science Night If you didn’t read Cindy Anderson’s email, it’s worth repeating. The 28th Annual Science Night was a HUGE success. We want to thank everyone who helped and participated including the Maintenance crew, Campus Security, Student Workers, Printing Services, Dining Services, ASCR and Academy of the Redwoods, and all of the Faculty and Associate Faculty who shared their talent with the community. And thank you Science Night Committee. Looking Ahead Next week is packed with a lot of important committee meetings providing material for next week’s update, including: Instructional Council, Enrollment Management Committee, Education Master Planning Steering Committee, Academic Senate, and the Board of Trustees. Spotlight on Associate Faculty Jay Scrivner teaches English. He graduated from the University of Denver, received an MFA from the University of Washington, and earned a teaching credential with an emphasis in reading instruction at Humboldt State University. He has taught in a number of different settings, including an International Baccalaureate School, traditional high schools, and in the court and community school program. When not teaching, one of the most unexpected jobs was as a gardener/caretaker of a Gatsby‐like estate on Bainbridge Island, Washington. He also enjoyed working on a fishing boat on Lake Michigan. Surfing and writing help him maintain balance and stay centered as life keeps unfolding. Spotlight on Staff Tory Eagles has worked for CR – Del Norte for 7 years. Tory started as a Student Services Specialist in the Administrative Office and in 2011 moved to Financial Aid. Due to our document imaging system, Tory is able to process files for students District‐wide. As the only Student Services Specialist III in Financial Aid, Tory has responsibility for processing special conditions applications and other files that require a higher level of processing. Tory also provides students with information regarding the EOPS and CalWORKs programs and participates in many outreach activities. In her time outside work, Tory is working toward her B.A. Degree in Social Work through HSU and enjoys running and spending time with her family. Have a Fun Halloween Weekend!
