Using the MRC… How can I find out what you have? Information about the Modern Records Centre's archive collections is available through online catalogue: http://mrccatalogue.warwick.ac.uk. You can also contact us ask for advice or further information. Regulations: Leave your bag and/or coat in the lockers provided or with the searchroom supervisor Use pencil, a laptop or a tablet to make notes when consulting archives We ask you to keep all the papers and files in order and not to remove or re-arrange the papers in any way. Keep noise to a minimum—this is a quiet study space. No food or drink is permitted in the research area. You will not be allowed more than 3 archival files or other items at your desk at a time (except with the permission of the searchroom supervisor) How do I register to use the Modern Records Centre? Use of the Centre is open to all and is free of charge. On your first visit to use archives you will be required to complete a research application form and to prove your identity, such as your student card. You will be required to complete a new research application form every academic year (August-July). Do I need tocontact you before a visit? It isn't compulsory, but we do strongly recommend that you contact us before a visit so that we can provide advice on available sources, access restrictions and any other factors which might affect your visit. Can I order documents before I arrive? Yes - we can get documents out in advance for you if you supply us with the reference numbers of the documents (at item or file level - not the reference number for the whole collection) and give us at least one full working days’ notice before your visit (staff are unable to pick up enquiries or orders on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holiday Mondays). How do I reference an archival document in my essay? Each department may have their own rules for reference archival documents. If they don’t, our recommended format for citing archives held at the Modern Records Centre is as follows: Short description of item, name of archive collection from which it comes, Modern Records Centre, University of Warwick, reference number. For example: Letter from Harold Macmillan to Richard Crossman, 15 December 1943; Richard Crossman Archive, Modern Records Centre, University of Warwick (MSS.154/3/AU/1/96) 'Women Against War and Fascism', bulletin no.3, Jan-Feb 1936; Maitland Sara Hallinan Collection, Modern Records Centre, University of Warwick (MSS.15X/1/319/1) Opening Hours: For more information about using the MRC please visit our website: go.warwick.ac.uk/mrc 09:00-17:00 Mon-Tues 09:00-19:00 Wed-Thurs* 09:00-16:00 Fri Closed Sat-Sun * Production of items from strongrooms ceases at 17:00 2
