Welcome to the
University of Warwick
“What if you could study at a university that is globally connected? A place that
champions independent thinking, as well as being founded first and foremost, on
academic excellence. A campus university that creates a supportive cosmopolitan living
environment, with endless opportunities for its 23,000 student population, originating
from over 140 countries.
As a student at Warwick, you’ll be part of a dynamic community where knowledge
is created, rather than simply described. Our academics are world-leading at their
research and feed that into their teaching, creating a challenging yet inspiring learning
environment. Our research strives to make a globally distinctive contribution to society,
taking a multidisciplinary approach to tackling the toughest global challenges. We are
also the only European university to be included in an international consortium to set
up a new Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) in New York. We’ve also just
announced our intention to open a campus in Placer County, California.
We stand out from the traditional universities with our close links to business and
industry. Companies use Warwick’s knowledge to develop their own strengths and
ensure that they remain at the cutting edge within their industries. That cutting edge
insight is developed out of world-class and internationally renowned research, with
Warwick currently ranked 7th overall in the UK according to the latest Research
Assessment Framework 2014. This is recognised within our reputation with employers,
with Warwick ranked top 15th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2014/15.
Perhaps you’ll want to choose a university that is getting ahead in a fast-moving world.
Choosing a Russell Group University will give you the backing you need. Named The
Times and Sunday Times University of the Year 2015, we are ever-present in the lists
of the UK’s and the world’s great universities. A place that provides you with infinite
possibilities. Choose Warwick.”

“At PwC we’ve recruited a number of students from Warwick.
These students come from a wide variety of degree
backgrounds and demonstrate the key skills and attributes
that PwC look for.”
22
an international perspective
Coming to Warwick means that you’ll be highly employable when
you graduate. We are 15th in the world for our reputation with
employers, with employers wanting the firm foundations that
Warwick degrees are built on.
Employability
Not only do our degree courses provide
you with the subject knowledge, but they
also develop your key skills in independent
and critical thinking, presentation and
communication, research, leadership and
organisation. Collaboration between our
departments and employers also ensures
our curricula are relevant to today’s and
tomorrow’s workplace.
Careers support
All of our undergraduate degrees offer
either the opportunity to apply your
leaning in a workplace or industry setting
as part of your degree, or the option to
apply for a voluntary year out for work
experience (subject to approval).
We advertise thousands of work
experience vacancies on our online
database for Warwick students and
graduates. These include placements
and internships. The Centre for Careers
and Skills provides a wide range of
skills programmes for undergraduate,
postgraduate and research students.
This includes workshops, advice and
academic coaching.
Warwick has a dedicated careers web page
for international students which includes
international job vacancies, listings of
international careers fairs and events,
as well a wide range of country-specific
resources and links.
Over 300 leading employers visit
campus each year to meet our students
and the value of a Warwick education is
reflected in the high quality of job roles
that employers offer to our graduates.
We were ranked as third most targeted
university nationally by the UK’s top 100
graduate employers. At 78%, we also
have one of the highest percentages of
graduates entering either professional or
managerial jobs, or graduate-level study,
of any UK institution (all figures taken
from The Times and Sunday Times Good
University Guide 2015).
Employers actively look for graduates who
have been members of student clubs and
societies. With nearly 300 student-run
clubs and societies, Warwick offers many
opportunities to meet a broad mix of
people and build your confidence.
Alumni
With over 175,000 alumni in over 190
countries, the Warwick Alumni network is
an invaluable tool that will help you to gain
advice, make contact with people working
in the same field or in the same country.
There is also information on internships
and events on their website www.warwick.
ac.uk/alumni
Student led events
Throughout the year on campus, you will
be able to participate in a wide range
of events which are student organised
and led. The highlight of these is One
World Week, which is the largest studentrun festival, and arguably one of the
most inclusive. OWW is a celebration of
culture, diversity and internationalism,
with the opportunity to be involved in the
organisation and participation of these
can be an impressive asset to your CV.
Other events include the Warwick Student
Art Festival, TEDx, Warwick Economics
Summit, and Warwick International
Development Summit. You can find out
more on the Students’ Union website

A superb location
One of the things that attracts many students to the
University of Warwick is our campus and the surrounding
areas. With fantastic social and sporting facilities, great
access to major towns and cities and excellent outdoor
space, students are rarely short of things to do.
Coventry
A beautiful cosmopolitan city with a
modern ambience but historical charisma
that provides Coventry with the charm that
has attracted visitors for a thousand years.
Located only three miles from campus,
and easily accessible with good transport
links, Coventry is home to shops, cafés,
restaurants, cinema complex, sports
centre, ice rink, theatre, museums, art
galleries, as well as parks and open spaces.
Coventry’s most famous resident, Lady
Godiva, can also be seen, alongside the
infamous Peeping Tom, in the Broadgate
area of the city centre.
Being a historic city, there is a vast amount
of attractions that you can visit, such as
Coventry Cathedral and Cathedral Ruins
and St Mary’s Guildhall. There is also the
world-class Coventry Transport Museum,
as well as the Herbert Art Gallery and
Museum. Closer to campus, you can find
fantastic open spaces, such as the War
Memorial Park.
Times by train from Coventry to:
Birmingham – 20 minutes
Manchester – 2 hours
Oxford – 50 minutes
London – 1 hour
Exeter – 3 hours
Edinburgh – 4.5 hours
Kenilworth
An idyllic town whose history began
with the building of the castle in the 12th
century. Kenilworth today is an enchanting
town with shops, cafés and restaurants,
while one of the UK’s greatest castle ruins
provides a perfect place to attend an event
or visit for the day. At Abbey Fields you can
spend an afternoon relaxing by the lakes,
or use the sporting facilities.
Royal Leamington Spa
A beautiful regency town with independent
shops as well as high street chains, cafés,
restaurants, cinema, sports centre and the
Pump Rooms. There are also open spaces
such as Jephson Gardens for you to enjoy a
cream tea or a walk around the gardens.
Warwick
The small town of Warwick is picturesque
and steeped in history. Best known for its
castle, Warwick is easily accessible from
the campus and a great destination for a
historical day out.
Stratford-upon-Avon
Known world wide for its connections with
William Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon
is only 16 miles from Warwick’s campus
and is a perfect destination for a literature
inspired day.
Birmingham
The UK’s second city, Birmingham is a
vibrant and cosmopolitan city located
approximately 20 minutes by train from
Coventry. A major shopping haven,
Birmingham is home to the Bull Ring
Shopping Centre, as well as cinemas,
theatres, tourist attractions, parks, open
spaces and much more.
24
an international perspective
Further afield, you will find the cities of
Manchester, London and Edinburgh.
All are well known for their cultural
attractions, shopping centres and
historical importance. These places and
much more are easily accessible from the
campus by public transport. Each term
the International Office offers a range of
trips to different tourist attractions and
important cities in the UK; ensuring that
you make the most of your time in the UK.
Europe
With direct train journeys from Coventry to
London taking less than 60 minutes, and
Birmingham International Airport only 15
minutes, major European cities are easily
accessible from the Warwick campus.
Whether you are visiting for a conference,
study abroad opportunity or on vacation,
you are only a couple of hours from all that
Europe has to offer.
Transportation
Getting to and from the campus is very
convenient, with regular public transport
services. The local buses offer a frequent
and convenient way of travelling from
Coventry City Centre, Kenilworth and
Leamington Spa to and from the campus.
The local Railway Stations in Coventry and
Leamington Spa provide opportunities to
travel easily to different areas of the local
area and the UK generally. 
“The campus is really beautiful, and
I love how close to nature you really
feel. You can see the change in seasons
happening across the campus.””
