Frequently asked questions How do I apply? All applications are made through a centralised application system, UCAS. Applicants can choose up to five individual degree courses, and more than one application can be at the same institution. The same application form is sent to each course that you apply for. How should I write my personal statement? When completing a personal statement, it is important to remember that the university is looking to see a well written statement, that demonstrates your interest in the subject you are applying to. It is important to refer to past achievements; any wider reading around your subject; what you are hoping to achieve through your studies and your future plans. If you are applying to a dual course, it is important to refer to the relationship between the two subjects. Health Centre The campus based Health Centre provides the highest quality health care to patients living on campus and in the local area. Eating on campus Although Warwick does not offer any meal plans and all residences are self catered, there is the option of using the ‘Eating at Warwick’ card, which provides a discount on food or drink purchased in on-campus outlets. Further information can be found at www.warwick.ac.uk/eating Cafés and restaurants Across campus, there are ten cafés, four restaurants, three bars, two pubs and a baguette bar. All offer a relaxed and friendly environment for all students. A range of special offers are available throughout the year, with Halal and/or vegetarian options available across all outlets. Shops The Warwick campus has all of the provisions for every day living. As well as the many restaurants and eating outlets, there are two banks, a bookshop, travel agent, post office, supermarket, hairdressers, pharmacy and on-campus recruitment agency. Local area 10 minutes walk from most areas of campus, you will find a large shopping centre, with a supermarket which is open 24 hours a day (apart from Sunday). You will also find a frozen food store, hardware/ general store, Asian food store, pharmacy, post office, travel agents, hairdressers and a café, amongst others. The Union is run by students for students, with elected sabbatical officers and an elected Union Council. If you want to get involved at this level, there are lots of opportunities for you to do so. The Students’ Union also represents students within University meetings, from staffstudent liaison right through to the University’s key decision-making body, the Senate. Warwick Arts Centre The largest arts centre outside of London, Warwick Arts Centre is one of the most exciting cultural venues in the country. With two theatres, a newly refurbished concert hall, cinema, art gallery, as well as bars, restaurants and a book shop, the Arts Centre provides a wide range of events for students and the local community to enjoy. Over 1,500 events are held each year, including theatre, film, music, classical music, comedy, dance, visual arts, family and spoken word. Students’ Union Most universities in the UK have a Students’ Union which is the heart and soul of the student social scene. Warwick is no exception. Warwick Students’ Union is one of the biggest and best in the country with bars, food and drink outlets, dance venues and an Advice and Welfare Office. The Union has a seven day a week entertainment programme and a wide mixture of events so that there is something for everyone to enjoy. We have 65 Sports Clubs catering for all abilities, where everyone is welcome. Warwick has some of the best sports facilities of any university in the UK, along with a team of professional coaches and instructors, who are on hand to help whatever your previous experience and ability. Whether you are an elite athlete or a beginner, you’ll be able to take part and advance in any sport. The Cryfield Sports Pavilion has over 60 acres of playing fields, including cricket, football, lacrosse and rugby pitches. The Westwood area of campus is designed as a mini sports village and has a three court sports hall, three artificial pitches, an 400m all-weather athletics track, and an indoor tennis centre plus floodlit outdoor court. The Main sports centre is situated in the centre of campus, and has a 25 metre, six-lane swimming pool plus sauna, five squash courts, the Bear Rock Indoor Climbing Centre and specialist ‘Bouldering room’, the Running Bear Fitness Suite and performance weight training area, two four-court sports halls, an aerobics studio and physiotherapy clinic. With fantastic social and sporting facilities, great access to major towns and cities and excellent outdoor space, students are rarely short of things to do. Coventry A beautiful cosmopolitan city with a modern ambience but historical charisma that provides Coventry with the charm that has attracted visitors for a thousand years. Located only three miles from campus, and easily accessible with good transport links, Coventry is home to shops, cafés, restaurants, cinema complex, sports centre, ice rink, theatre, museums, art galleries, as well as parks and open spaces. Coventry’s most famous resident, Lady Godiva, can also be seen, alongside the infamous Peeping Tom, in the Broadgate area of the city centre. Being a historic city, there is a vast amount of attractions that you can visit, such as Coventry Cathedral and Cathedral Ruins and St Mary’s Guildhall. There is also the world-class Coventry Transport Museum, as well as the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum. Closer to campus, you can find fantastic open spaces, such as the War Memorial Park. Kenilworth today is an enchanting town with shops, cafés and restaurants, while one of the UK’s greatest castle ruins provides a perfect place to attend an event or visit for the day. At Abbey Fields you can spend an afternoon relaxing by the lakes, or use the sporting facilities. Royal Leamington Spa A beautiful regency town with independent shops as well as high street chains, cafés, restaurants, cinema, sports centre and the Pump Rooms. There are also open spaces such as Jephson Gardens for you to enjoy a cream tea or a walk around the gardens. Warwick The small town of Warwick is picturesque and steeped in history. Best known for its castle, Warwick is easily accessible from the campus and a great destination for a historical day out. Stratford-upon-Avon Known world wide for its connections with William Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon is only 16 miles from Warwick’s campus and is a perfect destination for a literature inspired day. Birmingham The UK’s second city, Birmingham is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city located approximately 20 minutes by train from Coventry. Europe With direct train journeys from Coventry to London taking less than 60 minutes, and Birmingham International Airport only 15 minutes, major European cities are easily accessible from the Warwick campus. Transportation Getting to and from the campus is very convenient, with regular public transport services.
