Rajhi was a Ph.D. student in the Earth Science Department of the university's College of Science. All the examiners unanimously remarked that his research work was very important for the country's oil industry and mineral sector. External Examiner Dr Joe Macquaker, from the School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environmental Science, Manchester University, said Rajhi's thesis ‘is very relevant’ and promised support to get it published in international journals of geology. The study revealed that the Sur basin is a unique with a mixture of carbonate and siliciclastic material. Ali made use of the 'Peterl' software for creating three dimensional images of the basin. Employed as Director of Research and Geological Survey at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, he completed his Bachelors in Geology from SQU before going to Bern University in Switzerland for doing Masters in Sedimentology.
