PLMA ANNOUNCES ELECTION OF NEW OFFICERS
The Peak Load Management Alliance (PLMA) today announced the new officers of the Alliance for the
2010 – 2011 term of office. The election was held at the PLMA Fall 2009 Conference, “Practical Demand
Response for a Complex Future,” in Chicago, Illinois, October 20-21, 2009.
The new Board Chairman is Paul J. Tyno, Executive Vice President Market Development for Energy
Curtailment Specialists, based in Buffalo, New York. Paul has been actively involved in the demand
response/energy efficiency arena since joining the ECS staff shortly after the company’s inception in
2001. He is responsible for the implementation of their DSM curriculum working closely with prospective
clients (utility, ISO/RTO or program participants), federal and state regulatory organizations, business /
trade associations, economic development corporations and affiliate service providers.
He is the newly elected Chairman of the Peak Load Management Alliance (PLMA) and a member of the
Association of Energy Service Professionals (AESP), Pricing and Demand Response Committee.
Elected Vice Chairman for the upcoming term is Gardner McBride, Vice President of Business
Development of AzTech Associates in Kingston, Ontario. Gardner’s experience prior to coming to Aztech
includes sales, marketing and operations management in regulated and unregulated industries and on
the non-profit and business enterprise sides.
He was National Sales Manager for Elliot Business Machines (a DYMO company) and in Senior
Management at Interline Communications (an USWest company), responsible for the smart buildings
initiative. His start-up and commercialization experience includes acting as a mentor to the President for a
newly launched subsidiary of Illinois Bell where he successfully aided launching a spin-off riser cable
management company in six months.
On the non-profit side he was Executive Vice President (Chief Staff Officer) of The Building Owners and
Managers Association International (BOMA) for a decade. Prior to BOMA he was the Interim Executive
Vice President of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce.
Reelected as Treasurer for another term is Mark Martinez, Manager, Tariff Programs and Services for
Southern California Edison. Mark is a senior project manager for Southern California Edison (SCE) in the
demand response programs group. He is currently responsible for CPUC regulatory compliance and
facilitating SCE’s policy for EE-DR program integration and state and federal collaboration with such
agencies as California Energy Commission, DOE, NAESB, and FERC. In his career at SCE, Mark has
managed numerous DSM programs, conducted studies in load management and advanced metering,
and most recently developed the SCE Energy Orb and SCE’s first portfolio of retail DR forward contracts.
Mark is a board member and advisor for state energy and national DSM organizations, and is a popular
speaker at numerous industry conferences and universities. He is a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona School
of Engineering and lives in La Canada Flintridge, California.
