Passed Senate 9-16-10 President Batts used his SGA Bill 02-10-F power of line item veto A bill to remove Article VII, Section 2: A from the Senate By-Laws to veto Section 1 Whereas: Article VII, Section 2 already punishes senators for missing events they signed up for by docking their senate hours as many hours as they would have earned by actually working the event. Whereas: Article VII, Section 3 states that senators who do not complete their senate hours will be up for impeachment. Whereas: Senators who repeatedly miss events they signed up for would have a plethora of senate hours to complete due to Article VII, Section 2 and would not likely meet the requirements of Article VII, Section 1 due to Article VII, Section 3. Therefore, Article VII, Section 2: A would be a repetitive punishment. Whereas: If a senator were to miss three (3) or more events that they signed up for, but still manage to earn all twelve (12) of their senate hours by the end of the semester, they would have done more than twelve (12) hours of work for the Student Government; thus a gain for the Student Government for allowing the senator a chance to redeem themselves before the end of the semester when they would otherwise face impeachment anyways by Article VII, Section 3 if they did not complete their hours. THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED BY THE 73nd CONGRESS OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY THAT: Section 1: Article VII, Section 2: A be removed from the Student Government Association of Middle Tennessee State University’s Senate By-Laws. Section 2: Upon approval from the senate this bill will go into effect immediately.
