Teacher Education Council Minutes March 6, 2008 3:30 p.m. Nance-Boyer Hall, Room 1075 (unapproved) 1908-2008 Members Present: Jessi Brennan, Sharon Christensen, Jennifer Dennis, Mike Dunn, Marge Kingsley, Teresa Lubrano, Diann Megert, Michelle Smith, Sherry Reynolds, Ronna Vanderslice (chair), and Phil Zaninelli, Joel Dering, Russell Graves, Ramona Hall, Joe Jones, Kurtis KoII, and Jan Thomas Members Absent: Courtney Glazer (secretary), Claudia Edwards, and Debbie Stoll Proceedings: Meeting called to order at 3:30 p.m. by Chair, Ronna Vanderslice Director of Teacher Ed Report was given. a. NCATE previsit was held on February 27 with Dr. Leah Englehardt. The visit went well and a report was submitted indicating that significant work had been done and that overall, it appeared standards were being met. b. The on-site visit will be held on April 19-23. Teacher Ed Council will be interviewed April 21 at 3:00 with the location to be announced. All members should make every effort to attend. c. Each of the standards was discussed along with the rationale for the on-site visit. Last month's meeting minutes were approved (with minor corrections noted). Admission and Retention Committee Report. The committee made a motion to accept the five candidates who met all requirements and those who should meet them at the end of the semester. Those candidates included Sandra Butler, Michelle Davis, Kaycee Dial, Kensie Koch, and Chad Wilson, all elementary education majors. Dial and Koch must submit an acceptable lesson plan prior to the end of the semester and Butler must earn a C in her speech class which ends on Friday. The motion passed. 1 Other Business Old Business a. Approved minutes for January were distributed. New Business a. Certification Test Results - November 3,2007 administration (pages) Results for the OPTE were reviewed indicating good scores in each area except constructed response-which the unit is addressing. Results for this administration show the Cameron pass rate exceeds the state average. OSAT scores for Educational Leadership were reviewed. Cameron mean scores for the common core for this administration were below the state average with low scores noted for the case study which isa constructed response item. The department also noted this area in their PQIR and is working on it. Only one candidate took the elementary specialty test and that person did not pass. Two candidates took the middle school principal specialty test and both passed. Only one candidate took the secondary principal subtest and that person did not pass. OSAT scores for Elementary Education subtest 1 (reading, language arts, social studies, and constructed response) were reviewed. For this administration, 6 candidates took the subtest and 4 passed. Low scores were noted in the constructed response area. For subtest 2, (mathematics, science, health & fitness, and fine arts) 7n candidates passed the test with low scores noted in the fine arts area. This has not been a trend in prior administrations with Cameron's scores for 2006-2007 at the state average. OGET scores were reviewed. Six of seven candidates passed the OGET with the lowest scores occurring in the area of communication skills. b. The Title I report was shared with the Council and the reason for the differences in total pass rate on this report vs. the one the council receives was discussed (Title I only includes program completers). Announcements A. The next meeting on April 10 is a special meeting held to review the NCATE preparation materials and will not have business conducted. The regularly scheduled meeting on April 21 will be used for the NCATE interview $0 no other business will be conducted then either.
