2. COURSE DESCRIPTION
ENGLISH COURSE DESCRIPTION
ARABIC COURSE DESCRIPTION
The theoretical content defines the subject
of classification and its importance for the
library, users and librarians. The course
also deals with study and analysis of the
plan of Dewey Decimal Classification in
terms of: Identifying the responsibility of
intellectual planning and stages of
development, the principles of the plan, the
plan infrastructure, the ingredients, the
notation systems. The scheduled plan
focuses on electronic issues of Dewey
Decimal Classification on : the title of the
plan, how to access, the user interface, the
main menu, the structures of classification
records, browsing, search, connectivity
relationships, creating notes, and special
functions.
The practical side focuses on the training of
students on various forms of information
classification by Dewey Decimal
Classification on the Web, and training on
the rules for building notation.
3. COURSE AIM
The course aims to introduce students to the Dewey Decimal Classification system (print
and electronic versions), and how to use it. The course also aims to give students the
classification skills for various types of sources of information in various disciplines.
4. COURSE OBJECTIVES
1- Introduce students to the concept of the classification system and its
importance to the library and users
2- Teaching, practically, classification skills by using the Dewey Decimal
Classification System in printed and electronic editions
3- Assist students in dealing with technical problems related to classification
5. COURSE INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES
The program outcome is to produce graduates capable of organizing information
by using Dewey Decimal Classification system in printed and electronic forms in
order to organize library collections.

9. COURSE RULES
Attendance
Attendance at class is mandatory. Course Instructors should keep attendance records. An
"absentee warning notice" will be issued if a student is absent for:
• More than 10% in courses with less than 75 total contact hours.
• More than 5% in courses with 75 or more total contact hours.
An "absentee withdrawal notice" will be issued and the student will be deemed to have
withdrawn from the course with an 'FW' grade if a student is absent for:
• More than 20% in courses with less than 75 total contact hours.
• More than 15% in courses with 75 to 150 total contact hours.
• More than 10% of total contact hours for courses with more than 150 total
contact hours.
