Time: 3:30 p.m.
Location: IBC/RMA Executive Boardroom in the McMahon Centennial Complex
Announcements and Information Items:
1. Service Learning- Zeak Naifeh, Director of Student Activities and Sylvia Burgess,
Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs (Talk about Service Learning priority this
academic year, and ask the chairs to be thinking about their activities. Zeak, Steve
Sassaman and Woogie will be making appointments to visit departmental meetings to
discuss SL opportunities and provide support)
2. Start of School Items
a. Fall 2012 Student Information Sheet and Syllabus Attachment – Please include
this document with all university syllabi distributed to students. Electronic
versions are available at http://www.cameron.edu/academic_affairs. Note the
new section on Academic Notice and Probation.
b. Please remember that all course syllabi should include a listing of required and
recommended course materials with ISBN. If a faculty member requires the
purchase of an access code or other virtual instructional materials, then that
should be listed clearly on the syllabus as well.
c. Early Alert and Care Request usage – Please encourage faculty to use this
resource. Our participation rate last year grew from 45% to 66%. Many of our
retention and graduation rate initiatives are triggered by faculty entries into the
Early Alert System.
d. Final Exam Schedule for Fall 2012 posted to http://www.cameron.edu/registrar or
available on AggieAccess on the Faculty quick links, Student Info quick links and
MyInfo quick links.
e. Roster validation – Please remind faculty during the drop and add period to verify
that students in attendance are in the correct section.
f. Outside Employment/External Compensation (Handout – memo and form)
g. Late adds and drops and late withdrawals – Unless there is some earth shattering
reason, these requests will not be approved. Please encourage advisors to look at
12 week format and 2nd 8 week format alternatives.
h. Online instructional delivery update – AVP Sylvia Burgess and Lisa Restivo
i. Adjunct Faculty CIP Codes – Please expect communication from Human
Resources on adjunct faculty for whom we do not have CIP code duty
assignments. The CIP code assignment for each faculty member is the basis for
our load and budget reporting to OSRHE.
j. Please review the Faculty Handbook and Employee Handbook leave policies,
particularly sick leave, with faculty members in your areas of responsibility.
Please consult the appropriate dean for guidance.
3. Internal Funding Opportunities for Faculty and Staff
a. Endowed Lectureships (Handout)
b. Internal funding resources – Teaching, Service, and Scholarly activity (Handout)
– Please note that the general deadline for internal grant proposals is September
28, 2012.
4. Assessment Activities Update
a. Assessment Plan (Handout) – Please pay particular attention to the five year goals
for future actions.
b. Assessment Report for 2011 - 2012 (Handout)
c. Exit testing for Fall 2012 - CAAP Exams – request testing of freshmen and
seniors in Writing and Critical Thinking during the Fall 2012 semester
 Testing window: Monday, November 26th through Saturday, December
8th.
 Focus on giving exams to seniors in programs that did not participate to
the appropriate level in Spring 2012. (Handout)
 Any student who took an exam in Spring may not participate in Fall 2012
for VSA purposes
 Focus on giving exams to seniors in capstone courses, if possible, to
capture graduating seniors.
 If faculty members do not wish to use class time, alternative times can be
scheduled through the department chair with the Dr. Karla Oty, but
thought needs to be given as to how to get seniors to come take the test.
d. Assessment Funds for 2012 – 2013 (Handout) – We will continue the mini-grant
program with funding of $10,000. Of the original amount of $25,000, $15,000
will be used to fund CAAP tests due to inadequate departmental participation in
Spring 2012.
5. Catalog and Degree Requirements – Please review the preface of the undergraduate
catalog. Please help dispel the pervasive campus myth that students are “under” a
particular catalog in terms of degree requirements. If degree plan exceptions are to be
granted, including program teachout options, then those exceptions should be clearly
stated in any Program Modification or Program Deletion proposal submitted to the
Curriculum Committee or Graduate Council. Exception paths and implementation dates
should take into consideration the plans of study of active and current program students.
Preface
This catalog provides information about the academic programs of Cameron
University. It also contains information concerning admissions, academic
regulations and requirements, services available to students, academic
offerings and a list of the administrative officers and faculty of the University.
While every effort has been made to make this catalog as complete and
accurate as possible, changes may occur at any time in requirements,
deadlines, fees, curricula and courses listed in this catalog. All such changes
are effective at such time as the proper institutional authorities determine and
may apply not only to prospective students but also to those who are already
enrolled in the University. This catalog should not be construed as a contract
between Cameron and any person.
6. Reminder: Media contacts should be routed through Community Relations if you are
contacted by radio, TV, or newspaper. This is in no manner a restriction on what you say
but we want to make sure we have the appropriate spokesperson on any given topic for
Cameron University.
