For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, July 17, 2006 Cameron expanding nursing program on campus Cameron University is increasing its partnership with The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) in an effort to meet the critical shortage of nurses in the region. Cameron will provide additional spaces for OUHSC, which has a branch campus for its College of Nursing on Cameron’s campus, as well as remodel and expand classrooms and laboratories in Conwill Hall and South Shepler. The additional space will allow OUHSC program to expand from 40 to 70 students. “Cameron is committed to providing excellent students to support Southwest Oklahoma’s medical needs,” said Gary Buckley, Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs. “The relationship between Cameron and the OU Health Sciences Center has greatly benefited the medical community and our students and now we are expanding resources and facilities, which will enable us to offer opportunities to more students.” Cameron received a $192,000 grant from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for the expansion of the OUHSC program. With the grant, Cameron will remodel spaces on the fourth floor of South Shepler for classrooms and on the sixth floor for office spaces. Additionally, labs within Conwill Hall will be expanded and the technology will be updated. “Cameron is committed not only to the short term but also to the long term solutions necessary to benefit Southwest Oklahoma,” said Tom Sutherlin, Director of Institutional Research and Support Services.
