For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Sept. 30, 2005 Cameron hosts authors for special reading as part of CU Lectures and Concerts series As part of the Cameron University Lectures and Concerts series, celebrated authors Steve Heller and Sheyene Foster Heller will hold a fiction and non-fiction reading from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7, in the Shepler Center Mezzanine. The event, which is sponsored by the CU Lectures and Concerts series, Sigma Tau Delta, and the Department of English and Foreign Languages, is free and open to the public. During the event, the Hellers will read selections from their respective bodies of works. “Steve Heller and Sheyene Foster Heller are well published authors, who have a wealth of experience and advice to share with the audience,” said Marge Kingsley, Ph.D., Chair of the Department of English and Foreign Languages. “This is a wonderful opportunity to hear the authors read their works and interact with these talented individuals.” Steve Heller has published two novels: Father’s Mechanical Universe and The Automotive History of Lucky Kellerman, published by Anchor/Doubleday. He grew up near Yukon, where the events of Father’s Mechanical Universe are set. Heller is the chair of the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing graduate school at Antioch University in Los Angeles. His short stories and essays have appeared in many journals and national anthologies. He has earned various honors, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, two O’Henry Awards, and the Kansas Governor’s Arts Award for his writings. (over) Reading, ADD ONE Sheyene Foster Heller earned her Master of Fine Arts through Goucher College’s low residency program in creative nonfiction writing. Heller currently lives in Los Angeles and teaches English and creative writing courses online. She is also finishing her first memoir, Natural Disasters. Selections from this manuscript have been published in W.W. Norton’s In Brief, Brevity, Nebraska Review, Clackamas Literary Review, Pennsylvania English, and American Cowboy, among other publications. She was a recipient of the AWP Intro Journals Award in Nonfiction.
