For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Aug. 18, 2005 Cameron University agriculture department offering landscape design course this Fall Lush lawns, trimmed trees, fragrant flowers – the perfect landscape is one class away. The Cameron University department of agriculture is offering “Landscape Design” during the Fall 2005 semester. The class is designed to help interested individuals learn about developing, installing and maintaining a landscape. Taught by adjunct horticulture instructor Jim Coe, the course is available for three hours of college credit or can be audited for non-credit. The class meets from 5:30 to 7:20 p.m. every Monday with a lab during the same time period on Wednesdays. The course begins meeting Monday, Aug. 22. Coe is a retired Comanche County OSU Extension Educator where he taught the Master Gardener Program. He has taught horticulture classes at Cameron University, and is a feature horticulture writer for the Lawton Constitution and Oklahoma Gardening. Topics to be covered during the course include landscape plan development, landscape plant selection, irrigation, fertilizers, mowing, weed control, and insect and disease prevention. “The primary objective of this course is to develop landscape designs with emphasis on analysis, small landscape plans, effective use of plant material, structure features in the landscape, landscape business management and landscape maintenance,” said Dr. Jerry Dodd, Chair of the department of agriculture. Homeowners are encouraged to attend. Dodd said the course is ideal for managers and technicians from professional lawn care services, golf course maintenance, college students and homeowners who maintain their own landscape.
