For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, May 27, 2005 Cheeseborough, Snow awarded top honors at Cameron University’s science, math fair The Cameron University Science and Math Education Access Center, located in the CU Department of Physical Sciences, recently hosted its 2005 Elementary School Science and Geography Fair. The annual event, which began as part of Cameron’s Festival III observance, encourages students from kindergarten through sixth grade to discover science, mathematics, geography, and, beginning next year, literature. During the fair, students compete in various categories by presenting poster boards that describe their research and interests. Beyond the honors given in each category, two awards were given to students from the Lawton area to recognize their outstanding accomplishment. Brandon Cheeseborough from Lawton Christian School received the 2005 Marie Curie Award. The award is named in honor of the Nobel Prize-winning scientist for her work with radium in 1903. The second award, the Mae Jemison Award of Distinction, was presented to Kaylee Snow from Sullivan Village Elementary School. Jemison was the first African-American woman to fly aboard a space shuttle. The award represents a commitment to lifelong learning and the desire to enhance technology for the improvement of healthcare.
