Endowed lectureships make projects a reality
for faculty members at Cameron University
Faculty members have been presented grants from 17 endowed lectureships at Cameron University,
enabling them to conduct research and other special projects during the 2004-2005 academic year.
Recipients of the funds were selected through a proposal evaluation process. In all, awards from the
endowments to 20 faculty members totaled $56,500.
“Through the generosity of the donors, faculty members are provided the opportunity to pursue academic
interests and students are introduced to the essence of investigation,” said Dr. Gary Buckley, Vice
President for Academic Affairs at Cameron. “These awards are used to provide time, equipment and other
resources to carry out projects that could otherwise remain only a thought. In some cases, the lectureship
award provides the starting point for projects that will grow beyond the initial award, turning into larger term
pursuits that achieve support through other avenues.”
Endowed lectureships are established through donations from Cameron’s supporters to aid in the pursuit of
academic excellence. The initial donation is matched dollar-for-dollar by the McCasland Foundation of
Duncan to increase the base account. This amount is then matched dollar-for-dollar by the Oklahoma State

Regents for Higher Education, enabling the original donation to increase fourfold. Earnings from the
account are used for purposes specified by the donor or selected by the university within donor guidelines.
Recipients of this year’s grants will have an opportunity to share the results of their work with donors at a
banquet next fall.
