CU Percussion Ensemble sets fall concert
Cameron University’s percussion ensemble will perform its annual fall semester concert on Tuesday, Oct.
26, at 8 p.m. in the University Theater, located at 27th Street and A Avenue in Lawton.
The ensemble has performed campus concerts for nearly 60 consecutive semesters featuring members of
its percussion studio – alumni from across the U.S. who are performers or teachers. Notable alums include
Dr. Scott Deal, professor of percussion at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks; Stacy Loggins, a section
member of the U.S. Navy Concert Band in Washington, D.C.; John Simon, a freelance drumset artist from
Dallas; and several more recent graduates, including Derek Archer, Monty Booker, James Morris, Karen
Schell and Kenneth Schell.
“This concert will be an invigorating, exciting program of contemporary percussion ensemble literature
performed by outstanding Cameron music students,” said music professor Dr. Jim Lambert, the ensemble’s
conductor.
The ensemble will perform original and arranged compositions for percussion, including “Sabre Dance,”
“Teamwork,” “Be Thou my Vision,” “La Llarona,” “Something for Riley” and “Can You Feel the Love
Tonight.” In addition, Cameron graduate student Josh Sampson will be featured as steel drum soloist on
the traditional “Flag Woman,” and Yiu Ka Chan, a senior music major from Hong Kong, will be featured as
lead steel drum soloist on “Dottie Dimples.” Sophomore music major Jason Dozier, a graduate of Lawton
High School, will conclude the concert with the drumset solo feature, “Suite for Solo Drumset.”
