Local physicians offer free sports injury clinic
Team physicians for Cameron University’s athletic department have begun making their services available
to the university as a whole and to the greater Lawton sports community.
Dr. Wayne Johnson and Dr. Todd Gothelf, both of Lawton Orthopaedic Center, now offer a sports injury
clinic from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings in the CU Athletic Training Office. The office is located in
the northwest corner of Aggie Gymnasium on the Cameron campus.
The focus of the clinic is to reach out to athletes and physically active members of the Cameron and
Lawton communities by providing them with the opportunity to visit directly with physicians and trainers who
are willing to share their sports medicine expertise. The clinic offers a free initial evaluation and
consultation.
Johnson is in his first year as one of the Aggies' team physicians. He joined the staff of Comanche County
Memorial Hospital in 2003 after serving since 1999 as an orthopedic surgeon at Evans Army Community
Hospital in Fort Carson, Colo. He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine
and received his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn.
Gothelf came to Lawton from Phoenix, Ariz., where he directed a private practice as an orthopedic surgeon.
He received his degree in medicine from the State University of New York Health Sciences Center at
Syracuse Medical School. Gothelf completed his residency at Mount Sinai Hospital’s Department of
Orthopaedics in New York City, where he also served as chief resident.
