 2011 Fall Career Fair Summary
Executive Summary:
Student participation decreased significantly from the previous year, down 22.6% while employer participation was up
significantly by 14.3%. The Jones College of Business had just over a quarter of the student and alumni participants
followed by the College of Basic and Applied Science and the College of Behavioral and Heath Sciences, both tied at
18.5%. The top two ways students found out about the fair was from faculty (34.8%) and email (18.4%). Over 75% of
employers gave an overall ranking of excellent or good for the Fair out of a four point scale (excellent, good, fair, poor).
Of all areas evaluated, student quantity and quality received more of the fair and poor rankings. This includes student
participation, ability of students to introduce themselves, first impression of students, and quality of student resumes.

Employer Comments:
1. MTSU is our favorite event and provides our best interns
2. Very good fair. Very quality students.
3. Overall very smooth process-good organization.
4. Promote more on campus and in the local community
5. What are the means of marketing the job fair to students? Several comments from the students said that they
just heard about the event from a fellow student
6. Great work guys! Not as many students this year but the 3 I have are strong.
7. The turnout was low. I think it should be required to attend. Many of the students were not dressed appropriately.
Everyone was nice but the vendors outnumbered the participants.
8. Might need to publicize event to students.
9. Other years have been higher volume of students. Stop telling students only need one page resumes. Should
showcase all experience.
10. Good setup, good food, low student participation.
11. Better advertisement within aviation department.
12. Great event - very well organized. It would have been helpful to have an address to enter into the GPS for
directions.
13. Student turnout was not as good as I had hoped. Location of event was excellent. Directions stated to turn on E.
Main Street but I was able to eventually find my way over to the Murphy Center.
14. Add a directions link or address to career web site.
15. My booth was at the end of the line (dead end) so many students turned around before getting to my table. I
would suggest a continuous line of companies. Otherwise it was a great event.
16. Name tags for students. Would like Sales to be a category during registration for business type.
17. Could provide table covers and trash cans more available.
18. A class prior to graduation to encourage appropriate attire while meeting possible employers.
2011 Career Fair Summary Page 7 of 15 19. It may be better to have the event closer to the classrooms on campus so that more students attend. Also quality
of resumes were poor so coaching students on resume writing is needed.
20. Work around student schedules. Inconsistent waves/influx of students. Good location, good food, inconsistent
traffic flow.
21. Don't have students come just for the class requirements. It's a waste of our time.
22. Would like to see more professional dress. Event is one hour too long.
23. Students don't seem to be very motivated.
24. People need to have resumes on hand. Plenty came empty handed.
25. Students would benefit from interview prep/first impressions training. They didn't seem prepared for business
related conversations and interactions.
26. Many students dressed well--very professional. Some may need a little more coaching to be taken seriously.
Overall, this was a positive experience today.
27. Encourage students to dress professionally and bring resumes. First impressions matter! Overall it was a very
successful event.
28. Move recruiting events earlier in semester would work better for our staffing schedule.
29. The event could have been a bit shorter. Maybe 10-2. The lunch was amazing.
30. Great event-Maybe 1 hour shorter but overall good traffic flow. Planning, registration, parking were all great.

Would you prefer a Graduate/Professional School Fair separate for Career Fair? Yes 17, No 8
Which semester is best for you to participate in a fair like this? Fall 25, Spring 8, Summer 0
Graduate/Professional School Comments:
1. Maybe change the time to 2:00 to 6:00-might allow more students to participate.
2. Maybe be 1 hour shorter. I think a separate fair for grad schools brings more intentional students, but the
mixture allows for more overall attendance. This event was well attended and had a lot of traffic. One of the
best fairs I have attended so far. Could use assistance bringing materials from parking lot upstairs.
3. If you have a separate grad fair I would encourage you to possibly have a separate Pu Health or have the
medschool, pharm, nursery, etc. in an area together, separate from law, MBA, etc.
4. Thanks! Y’all rock…Go Blue Raiders.
5. Combining the Grad and Career fairs is a good idea, however, the layout needs work. Grouping the
representatives by practice area would be helpful. (Maybe so that grad schools are on one side of the aisle and
corporations/employers are on another.) For the students, it is efficient to have both represented. I talked to a
number of students today who were trying to decide between grad school and working. This event helped them.
Also, unlike most students who attend only a grad school fair, these students came with resumes which
facilitated a more meaningful discussion about professional goals and our application process.
6. 10-2 or 10-1 maybe a better time frame. Was too lengthy.
7. Combine grad schools together in 1 section.
8. A bit spread out. If you continue to combine career and graduate events, put all grad schools together. If
planning a separate grad event, hold it where there is a lot of student traffic and also close to parking.
9. Great job!
10. Very well done. Great food.
11. Directions were a bit confusing, but parking signs cleared up the confusion. Thank you for a wonderful event!
12. The fair was a little long.
13. Perhaps 1 hour shorter.
14. Excellent organization.
15. Your staff were fantastic! Great customer service. Loved the drink cart. I would love to see more student traffic.
3 hours would be sufficient.

The map needs a little improvement, but my experience was awesome.

It’s excellent but not enough people for fashion design majors.
Very nice, energetic people.
I enjoyed my time at the career fair. There should be more careers pertaining to other majors.

Everything
What to know where they are hiring
N/A
All businesses very friendly and open.
Good firms overall. The difficult part (for me) was the limit of fairs per semester and the hours in which it is in
operation. Maybe extend the hours. But of course, I may just be the exception.
The hours didn’t fit well with my schedule and I was only able to be here an hour. Should do this twice a
semester.
Need more business oriented organizations
Love the stations and being able to interact with others and get connections
There were several companies I liked. I wish there were more MBA schools.
Well dressed. It’s the same as last year. It feels like corps are trying to lure people in with candy.
The availability of employers.
I’m interested in more recruiting agencies
I enjoyed the location and concentration(?) of businesses. But although I was well spoken, well dressed,
prepared, many recruiters body language suggested I was not what they were looking for. I am a tall black male.
