Faculty Senate Chair Report
January 22, 2013
The date of the spring caucus was moved to January 25 from 3:00 to 5:00, and will be held at
Illusions. We will have refreshments.
I have solicited ideas from faculty and asked Senators to encourage attendance. I will compile
the ideas that I receive from those who can’t attend or prefer to submit their ideas in writing
and have them ready for the caucus.
In addition, I presented the list of issues from the fall caucus to the Senate Planning Team for
discussion of actions taken or needed. The issues and responses/actions will be shared with
faculty during and following the spring caucus. The COACHE survey results will also be
discussed as they relate to faculty ideas and issues.
The Faculty Senate Planning Team discussed their use of SharePoint, and there was a strong
consensus that it wasn’t working very well. Alternatives may be to go back to using the H drive
or set up a Senate site on Blackboard. Senators will have the opportunity to discuss this at the
upcoming Senate meeting.
There has been a lot of action going on in Faculty Assembly related to the strategic plan. We
have been asked to solicit Faculty Senate support for the General Education resolution that
Rebecca Lasher posted on Sharepoint. Thus far, four of the UNC campus senates have received
support for the resolution. I will ask our Senate to vote on supporting the resolution.
Meetings attended since Nov 28 Senate meeting: CLC, SGA, Staff Senate, CODI… Faculty
Assembly/ Chapel Hill, Nov. 30 and Shared Governance & Faculty Handbooks, Dec. 1; Jan 18.
Board of Trustees, etc.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Jean Ronan Herzog
