Western Carolina University College Student Personnel Program Educational Leadership and Foundations Department CEAP Annual Assessment Report for 2007-2008 Primary Contact Name/Info: Cheryl Joy Daly, Program Director Student Learning Outcome(s) Assessed in 2008-2009 Western Carolina University CSP has established cognitive, affective, and behavioral goals for the program, which are addressed through classes, internships, graduate assistantships, and individual and group interactions between students and faculty. Encourage professional development and professional socialization; Encourage involvement in professional organizations; and enhance student marketability. Assist CSP students in developing their professional competencies through field experience that are linked appropriately with theoryoriented courses. CSP student competencies and work habits on internships. Method(s) of Assessment The Internship evaluation survey provides both qualitative and quantitative information from site supervisors, to improve the intern’s strengths/ weaknesses and professional development needs. Count number of students who were successful in finding professional work in the field through professional networking, conference participation, and faculty couching. Student Faculty evaluation are analyzed to improve the learning experience in the classroom. Students complete a comprehensive exam that is not connected to the capstone course. Results of Assessment Every student intern was evaluated using the internship survey and this information was combined with the course assignments in the internship seminar to provide a more comprehensive assessment of student progress. In Fall 2007 and Spring 08 internship supervisors responded with positive feedback on all internship evaluation forms. Survey reports indicated that students had met the learning objective of the internship experience. Site grades ranges from “A” to “B”. The CSP program had eight graduating students in May 2008. Of the eight students, three found leadership positions in student affairs in a 4-yr institution; One students will attend a doctoral program in higher education in the fall; one student will continue in her full-time position as a school administrator; and finally, one of student will teach an online course as an adjunct instructor in a community college. Student attended the ACPA conference in Atlanta GA and several students were offered summer internships. CSP alumni knowledge of core content areas and career preparation in several critical skill areas. Provide an annual survey of alumni one year after graduation. Implementation Plan Program Satisfaction discussions will occur during the capstone course with graduating students, in individual meeting and with parttiime students, and during internship I and II for first year students. Based on the comments of our graduating students it would benefit the student to re-design the program of study to have a heavy course load in the first year and lighter course load during the second year. The would allow which would have student focus on job searching and preparation of the comps. Use of internship evaluation form will continue in conjunction with internship seminar. Students will also complete evaluation of internship site . Use the student faculty evaluation to assess student satisfaction with faculty performance to improve course work delivery. Improve the curriculum to meet the standards and guidelines of the Council for the Advancement of Standard in Higher. Create course in historical foundations, new technology, budgeting, Student are encourage to attend the NAPA national conference in Seattle Washington to attend the Job market fairs.
