Item for Action
1. College of Engineering – department name change to “Civil and Geological Engineering”
The Planning Committee recommends that Council approve the change of name from the
Department of Civil Engineering to “Department of Civil and Geological Engineering”.
The memo from the College of Engineering requesting this change is attached as Appendix One.
Items for Information
Notices of Intent
The Planning Committee has reviewed Notices of Intent for a new program in Bioinfomatics
B.Sc. Four year and Honours (Colleges of Arts and Science, and Biotechnology) and for a Physical
Therapy graduate program (College of Graduate Studies and Research). A Notice of Intent has also been
received for a Masters program in Religious Studies (College of Graduate Studies and Research).
Operations Forecast Joint Sub-Committee
The report of the Operations Forecast Joint Subcommittee is attached as Appendix Two. The
Planning Committee was gratified that several of the subcommittee suggestions were incorporated into
the Operations Forecast document. We have also discussed these recommendations with the VicePresident Academic and Provost, and with the Vice-President (Finance and Resources). Suggested
changes in the way the university develops the forecast will be included in the strategic planning initiative
which is now underway.
Academic Health Sciences Centre
The Planning Committee discussed the development of the Academic Health Sciences Centre
with Acting Dean Baker, and representatives from the Medicine Faculty Council Dr. Lorne Massey, Dr.
Roger Keith and Professor Lou Qualtiere.
