2010 Transferable Courses COMMON COURSE NUMBERING Washington State Community Colleges have implemented a common course numbering (CCN) system. "Common" courses are designated by the "&" symbol at the end of the department abbreviation, as in BIOL& instead of BIOL. This guide includes only commonly numbered courses. Other courses not listed here may also transfer to Puget Sound. For further guidance, you should be sure to review your community college's individual section in this transfer manual. Transfer evaluations are completed in the context of each student's academic program. It is possible for an evaluation to exclude courses that are listed in this guide. Therefore students are encouraged to contact the Puget Sound Office of Admission in selecting transfer courses, especially those students who have selected a major. A maximum of 96 quarter credits may be transferred, and all courses are evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Students should use the course listing in conjunction with the current course catalog at their community college and the University of Puget Sound Bulletin 2009-2010. This guide is effective for the 2010 calendar year only and will be honored until 2012. This guide has two lists, one for CCN courses that transfer as university Core requirements and one for transferable/nontransferable CCN courses in general. Note any courses that must be taken in combination in order to transfer as equivalent to a course(s) at Puget Sound. If the combination is not completed, separate courses may not transfer. Students are therefore advised to complete a sequence of courses, rather than just one or two quarters (for example, students studying Biology should complete BIOL& 211, 212, and 213 rather than just BIOL& 211 and 212). HUMANISTIC APPROACHES - Continued ENGL& 225 - Shakespeare 2 HIST& 116 - Western Civilization I Transfer credit used in a major or minor program is subject to HIST& 117 - Western Civilization II departmental review. Academic departments may require a HIST& 118 - Western Civilization III transfer student to complete an interview or examination before HIST& 126 - World Civilizations I being placed into a program of study. Based on a student's HIST& 127 - World Civilizations II placement, transfer credit may be adjusted and a student HIST& 128 - World Civilizations III required to complete appropriate courses in residence. HIST& 136 - US History I HIST& 137 - US History II NOTE: These listings apply to regular course offerings HIST& 146 - US History 1 completed by regular college students. Courses offered in HIST& 147 - US History 2 other formats, such as programmed-learning, challenge HIST& 148 - US History III examinations, distance-learning, online, or telecourses, may HIST& 156 - History of US I HIST& 157 - History of US II not be transferable. Additionally, college credit earned prior to high school graduation is subject to evaluation using both HIST& 158 - History of US III the high school and college transcripts. HIST& 159 - History of US IV HIST& 220 - African American History Because curriculum revisions may occur during the year, all HUM& 117 - Humanities II announcements are subject to change without notice. This PHIL& 101 - Intro to Philosophy document does not create a contract between the university and any student or community college.
