GLOBAL TANGO, A FILM ABOUT DISPLACED ARGENTINEAN TANGO
DANCERS, TO BE SCREENED AT RAMAPO COLLEGE
(Mahwah) – Global Tango, by documentary filmmaker Marta Bautis, will be
presented on Wednesday, March 9 at 5 p.m. in the Sharp Theater on the campus of
Ramapo College of New Jersey. Bautis is a professor of news-documentary production
at the College.
The event, part of Ramapo College’s Encounter with the Artists series, is free and
open to the public. Dancers and musicians featured in the film will perform after the
screening. A reception featuring traditional foods from Argentina follows the program.
Through performances, personal memories and testimonies of tango artists,
Global Tango tells the story of the displacement of Argentineans caused by the recent
economic crisis in that country.
The film premiered last August at the Clearview Theater in New York City as part
of La Cinema Fe, the Latin American Cinema Festival of New York. It was also
screened at the Festival International del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano in Cuba.
The Sharp Theater is located in the Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for
Performing and Visual Arts. For more information call 201.684.7844.
This program is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey Stage
Council on the Arts/Department of Stage, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment
for the Arts.
