FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Bonnie Franklin: bfrankli@ramapo.edu or Rosa Diaz-Mulryan: rmulryan@ramapo.edu February 9, 2005 GLOBAL TANGO, A FILM ABOUT DISPLACED ARGENTINEAN TANGO DANCERS, TO BE SCREENED AT RAMAPO COLLEGE (Mahwah) – Global Tango, by documentary filmmaker Marta Bautis, will be presented on Wednesday, March 9 at 5 p.m. in the Sharp Theater on the campus of Ramapo College of New Jersey. Bautis is a professor of news-documentary production at the College. The event, part of Ramapo College’s Encounter with the Artists series, is free and open to the public. Dancers and musicians featured in the film will perform after the screening. A reception featuring traditional foods from Argentina follows the program. Through performances, personal memories and testimonies of tango artists, Global Tango tells the story of the displacement of Argentineans caused by the recent economic crisis in that country. The film premiered last August at the Clearview Theater in New York City as part of La Cinema Fe, the Latin American Cinema Festival of New York. It was also screened at the Festival International del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano in Cuba. The Sharp Theater is located in the Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts.
