EVERETT COMMUNITY COLLEGE 2005 UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND TRANSFER AGREEMENT This guide is a reference to assist students at Everett Community College in their preparation for transfer to the University of Puget Sound. It contains general transfer credit information and lists Everett Community College courses that are transferable as University Core requirements, 100-200 level major requirements, or electives. Community college courses that are similar to Puget Sound courses numbered at the 100 or 200 level are generally transferable. However, as transfer evaluations are done in the context of each student’s academic program, it is possible for an evaluation to include courses not listed in this guide as well as to exclude courses that are listed. Therefore, students are encouraged to seek the advice of the Puget Sound Office of Admission (253-879-3211 or 800396-7191) in selecting transfer courses, especially those students with specific plans. A maximum of 96 quarter credits may be transferred. Community college students who wish to complete an associate degree prior to transferring are encouraged to do so. However, the University evaluates all transfer credit on a course-by-course basis and an associate degree itself does not provide any direct benefit. Students should use the course listing in conjunction with the Everett Community College 2004-2005 Catalog and the University of Puget Sound Bulletin 2004-2005. Due to the lag-time between the publication of the Bulletin and the publication of this guide, this guide is effective for the 2005 calendar year only and will be honored until 2007. This guide has two lists, one for courses that transfer as University Core requirements and one for transferable courses in general. Note any courses that must be taken in combination in order to transfer. If the combination is not completed, separate courses may not transfer. Students are therefore advised to complete a sequence of courses, rather than just one or two quarters. (For example, students studying calculus should complete Math 152, 153, and 154 rather than just Math 152 and 153). language requirement. Sophomore transfer students may complete 4 Core and the language requirement with transfer credit while junior transfer students may complete 5 Core courses and the language requirement with transfer credit. All transfer credit used in a major or minor program is subject to individual departmental review and approval. Academic departments may require a transfer student to complete an interview or examination before being placed into a program of study. Based on a student’s placement, transfer credit may be adjusted and a student required to complete appropriate courses in residence. Again, students are encouraged to contact the Office of Admission (253879-3211 or 800-396-7191) for assistance in planning g their transfer to Puget Sound. NOTE: These listings only apply to regular course offerings completed by regular college students. Courses offered in other formats, such as programmedlearning, challenge examination, distance-learning, online, telecourses, or extension programs may not be transferable. Additionally, college credit earned by a student prior to high school graduation is subject to special evaluation criteria and reviewed for transfer credit on a case-by-case basis using both the high school and college transcripts. Students should contact the Admission Evaluator in the Office of the Registrar (253879-3219) for specific information. Similarly, all Contracted, Cooperative, Cross Cultural, Directed, Field, Honors, Independent, Seminar, Special, Travel Studies and other courses with variable content are evaluated individually. Students completing such courses may submit a syllabus or abstract to the Admission Evaluator for review. Because curriculum revisions may occur during the year, all announcements are subject to change without notice. Additionally, this agreement is not to be regarded as having created a binding contract between the University and any student or community college. The University has implemented a new Core curriculum. The University Core includes 8 requirements plus a COURSE EQUIVALENCIES EVERETT COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRANSFERABLE COURSES THAT COMPLETE UNIVERSITY CORE REQUIREMENTS FINE ARTS APPROACHES (5 credits) ART 220 Western Art History: Ancient to Medieval th th ART 221 Western Art History: 15 to 18 Centuries th th ART 222 Western Art History: 18 to 19 Centuries ENGL 115 Understanding Literature MUSIC 109 Music for the Listener MUS 110 World Music MUSIC 116 Survey of Jazz THEAT 104 Introduction to the Theatre HUMANISTIC APPROACHES (5 credits) ANTHR 202 Principles of Sociocultural Anthropology ENGL 172 Women Writers ENGL 232 Shakespeare: Early Works ENGL 234 Shakespeare: Later Works HUMN 247 Introduction to World Religions PHIL 100 Introduction to Philosophy PHIL 215 Ethics MATHEMATICAL APPROACHES (5 credits) CP 130 Computer Programming I - C++ CP 132 Computer Programming II - C++ CP 140 Computer Programming I - Java GNBS 201 Elements of Statistics MATH 137 Applications in Contemporary Mathematics MATH 142 Elements of Calculus MATH 152 Calculus with Analytic Geometry I MATH 153 Calculus with Analytic Geometry II MATH 154 Calculus with Analytic Geometry III MATH 252 Calculus with Analytic Geometry IV MATH 260 Linear Algebra MATH 281 Elements of Statistics PHIL 120 Formal Logic NATURAL SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES (5 credits) ASTRO 120 Observational Astronomy ASTRO 121 Evolution of the Universe BIOL 102 Introductory College Biology BIOL 160 Cellular Biology BIOL 161 General Zoology CHEM 101 College Chemistry I CHEM 102 College Chemistry II CHEM 140 General Chemistry l with Lab CHEM 150 General Chemistry ll with Lab CHEM 160 General Chemistry lll with Lab CHEM 200 Organic Chemistry I CHEM 201 Organic Chemistry II CHEM 202 Organic Chemistry III GEOS 101 Introduction to Geological Science I GEOS 102 Introduction to Geological Science II PAGE 1 NATURAL SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES Continued (5 credits) GEOS 103 The Evolving Earth GEOS 208 Pacific Northwest Geology OCEAN 101 Physical Oceanography PHYS 117 General Physics & Lab PHYS 118 General Physics & Lab PHYS 119 General Physics & Lab PHYS 121 & 131 (both) Engineering Physics I/Lab PHYS 122 & 132 (both) Engineering Physics II/Lab PHYS 123 & 133 (both) Engineering Physics III/Lab SOCIAL SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES (5 credits) ECON 200 Principles of Macro Economics ECON 201 Principles of Micro Economics POLS 201 American Politics POLS 202 Comparative Politics POLS 203 World Politics PSYCH 240 Social Psychology SOC 160 Gender and Society SOC 210 Social Problems SOC 240 Social Psychology LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT (15 cr or 1 200-level course) ASL 101-103 (all) American Sign Language FREN 101-103 (all) Elementary French GERM 101-103 (all) Elementary German GERM 201 Intermediate German JAPN 101-103 (all) Elementary Japanese JAPN 201 Intermediate Japanese RUSS 101-103 (all) Elementary Russian SPAN 101-103 (all) Elementary Spanish SPAN 201 Intermediate Spanish TRANSFERABLE COURSES LISTED BY NUMBER Symbols used throughout this guide are as follows: X Transferable course + Activity credit.
