PENINSULA COLLEGE 2004 UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND TRANSFER AGREEMENT This guide is a reference to assist students at Peninsula College in their preparation for transfer to the University of Puget Sound. It contains general transfer credit information and lists Peninsula College courses that are transferable as University Core requirements, 100-200 level major requirements, or electives. Community college courses that are similar to Puget Sound courses numbered at the 100 or 200 level are generally transferable. However, as transfer evaluations are done in the context of each student’s academic program, it is possible for an evaluation to include courses not listed in this guide as well as to exclude courses that are listed. Therefore, students are encouraged to seek the advice of the Puget Sound Office of Admission (253-879-3211 or 800396-7191) in selecting transfer courses, especially those students with specific plans. A maximum of 96 quarter credits may be transferred. Community college students who wish to complete an associate degree prior to transferring are encouraged to do so. However, the University evaluates all transfer credit on a course-by-course basis and an associate degree itself does not provide any direct benefit. Students should use the course listings in conjunction with the Peninsula College 2002-2004 Catalog and the University of Puget Sound Bulletin 2003-2004. Due to the lag-time between the publication of the Bulletin and the publication of this guide, this guide is effective for the 2004 calendar year only and will be honored until 2006. This guide has two lists, one for courses that transfer as University Core requirements and one for transferable courses in general. Note any courses that must be taken in combination in order to transfer. If the combination is not completed, separate courses may not transfer. Students are therefore advised to complete a sequence of courses, rather than just one or two quarters. (For example, students studying calculus should complete Math 124, 125, and 126 rather than just Math 124 and 125). students who enter in Fall 2004 and junior transfer students who enter in Fall 2005. The new Core includes 8 requirements, instead of 12, along with a language requirement. Sophomore transfer students may complete 4 Core and the language requirement with transfer credit while junior transfer students may complete 5 Core courses and the language requirement with transfer credit. All transfer credit used in a major or minor program is subject to individual departmental review and approval. Academic departments may require a transfer student to complete an interview or examination before being placed into a program of study. Based on a student’s placement, transfer credit may be adjusted and a student required to complete appropriate courses in residence. Again, students are encouraged to contact the Office of Admission (253879-3211 or 800-396-7191) for assistance in planning their transfer to Puget Sound. NOTE: These listings only apply to regular course offerings completed by regular college students. Courses offered in other formats, such as programmed learning, challenge examination, distance-learning, online, telecourses, or extension programs may not be transferable. Additionally, college credit earned by a student prior to high school graduation is subject to special evaluation criteria and reviewed for transfer credit on a case-by-case basis using both the high school and college transcripts. Students should contact the Admission Evaluator in the Office of the Registrar (253879-3219) for specific information. Similarly, all Contracted, Cooperative, Cross Cultural, Directed, Field, Honors, Independent, Seminar, Special, Travel Studies, and other courses with variable credit content are evaluated individually. Students completing such courses may submit a syllabus or abstract to the Admission Evaluator for review. Because curriculum revisions may occur during the year, all announcements are subject to change without notice. Additionally, this agreement is not to be regarded as having created any binding contract between the University and any student or community college. The University has implemented a new Core curriculum. Freshmen who enter the University in Fall 2003 will be subject to the new requirements, as will sophomore transfer COURSE EQUIVALENCIES PENINSULA COLLEGE TRANSFERABLE COURSES THAT COMPLETE OLD UNIVERSITY CORE REQUIREMENTS (FOR 2004-2005 JUNIOR-LEVEL TRANSFER STUDENTS) COMMUNICATION I (5 credits) ENGL 111 English Composition I COMMUNICATION II Option A (5 credits) SPCH 115 Fundamentals of Speech Option B (15 credits) CHIN 101-103 (all) GERM 101-103 (all) GERM 201-203 (all SPAN 101-103 (all) SPAN 201-203 (all) Elementary Chinese Elementary German Intermediate German Elementary Spanish Intermediate Spanish MATHEMATICAL REASONING (5 credits) CSC 117 C++ Programming MATH 107 Mathematics for Non-Science Majors MATH 124 Calculus with Analytic Geometry I MATH 125 Calculus with Analytic Geometry II MATH 126 Calculus with Analytic Geometry III MATH 156 Calculus for Business and Economics MATH 21Linear Algebra MATH 281 Statistics SOCIETY (5 credits) ANTHR 110 Cultural Anthropology ECON 201 Principles of Macroeconomics ECON 202 Principles of Microeconomics PO SC 120 American Government PSYCH 250 Social Psychology SOC 220 Social Problems INTERNATIONAL STUDIES (5 credits) PO SC 110Modern Government PO SC 130International Relations NATURAL WORLD (10 credits) BIOL 101L Survey of Biology CHEM 101L Introduction to Chemistry CHEM 102L Introduction to Organic Chemistry CHEM 103L Introduction to Biochemistry CHEM 140L General Chemistry CHEM 150L General Chemistry CHEM 160L General Chemistry CHEM 237 & 241L Organic Chemistry I/Lab CHEM 238 & 242L Organic Chemistry II/Lab GEOL 205L Introduction to Physical Geology PHYS 114L General Physics I PAGE 1 NATURAL WORLD CONTINUED (10 credits) PHYS 115L General Physics II PHYS 116L General Physics III PHYS 120 Introduction to Astronomy PHYS 121 Introduction to Astronomy II ZOOL 101L Introduction to Zoology FINE ARTS (5 credits) DRAMA 100 Drama Appreciation MUSIC 115 History and Appreciation of Music TRANSFERABLE COURSES THAT COMPLETE NEW UNIVERSITY CORE REQUIREMENTS AS OF FALL 2004 MATHEMATICAL APPROACHES (5 credits) CSC 117 C++ Programming MATH 107 Mathematics for Non-Science Majors MATH 124 Calculus with Analytic Geometry I MATH 125 Calculus with Analytic Geometry II MATH 126 Calculus with Analytic Geometry III MATH 156 Calculus for Business and Economics MATH 21Linear Algebra MATH 281 Statistics FINE ARTS APPROACHES (5 credits) DRAMA 100 Drama Appreciation MUSIC 115 History and Appreciation of Music SOCIAL SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES (5 credits) ECON 201 Principles of Macroeconomics ECON 202 Principles of Microeconomics PO SC 110 Modern Government PO SC 120 American Government PO SC 130 International Relations PSYCH 250 Social Psychology SOC 220 Social Problems HUMANISTIC APPROACHES (5 credits) ANTHR 110 Cultural Anthropology PHIL 100 Introduction to Philosophy NATURAL SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES (5 credits) BIOL 101L Survey of Biology CHEM 101L Introduction to Chemistry CHEM 102L Introduction to Organic Chemistry CHEM 103L Introduction to Biochemistry CHEM 140L General Chemistry CHEM 150L General Chemistry CHEM 160L General Chemistry CHEM 237 & 241L Organic Chemistry I/Lab CHEM 238 & 242L Organic Chemistry II/Lab CHEM 238 & 242L Organic Chemistry II/Lab COURSE EQUIVALENCIES NATURAL SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES CONTINUED (5 credits) GEOL 205L Introduction to Physical Geology PHYS 114L General Physics I PHYS 115L General Physics II PHYS 116L General Physics III PHYS 120 Introduction to Astronomy ZOOL 101L Introduction to Zoology LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT (15 credits) GERM 101-103 (all) Elementary German GERM 201-203 (all Intermediate German SPAN 101-103 (all) Elementary Spanish SPAN 201-203 (all) Intermediate Spanish TRANSFERABLE COURSES LISTED BY NUMBER 2004 PENINSULA COLLEGE 2004 UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND BIOLOGY BIOL 101L/BOT 101L/ZOOL 101L (all)BIOL 111 & 112 BIOL 201L & 202L (both) BIOL 221 & 222 BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION BA 251-253 (all) BA 254 BUS 205 X CHEMISTRY CHEM 101L-103L (all) CHEM 140L-160L (all) CHEM 237-239/241L-242L (all) CHEM 110 & 111 * CHEM 110 & 111 CHEM 250 & 251 CHINESE CHIN 101-103 CHIN 101 & 102 * Symbols used throughout this guide are as follows: X Transferable course COMPUTER SCIENCE CSC 117 CSCI 161 * + Activity credit.
