COLUMBIA BASIN COLLEGE
2004
UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND TRANSFER AGREEMENT
This guide is a reference to assist students at Columbia
Basin College in their preparation for transfer to the
University of Puget Sound. It contains general transfer
credit information and lists Columbia Basin College courses
that are transferable as University Core requirements, 100200 level major requirements, or electives.
Community college courses that are similar to Puget Sound
courses numbered at the 100 or 200 level are generally
transferable. However, as transfer evaluations are done in
the context of each student’s academic program, it is
possible for an evaluation to include courses not listed in
this guide as well as to exclude courses that are listed.
Therefore, students are encouraged to seek the advice of
the Puget Sound Office of Admission (253-879-3211 or 800396-7191) in selecting transfer courses, especially those
students with specific plans. A maximum of 96 quarter
credits may be transferred.
Community college students who wish to complete an
associate degree prior to transfer are encouraged to do so.
However, the University evaluates all transfer credit on a
course-by-course basis and an associate degree itself does
not provide any direct benefit.
Students should use the course listings in conjunction with
the Columbia Basin College 2003-2004 Catalog and the
University of Puget Sound Bulletin 2003-2004. Due to the
lag-time between the publication of the Bulletin and the
publication of this guide, this guide is effective for the 2004
calendar year only and will be honored until 2006.
This guide has two lists, one for courses that transfer as
University Core requirements and one for transferable
courses in general. Note any courses that must be taken in
combination in order to transfer. If the combination is not
completed, separate courses may not transfer. Students
are therefore advised to complete a sequence of courses,
rather than just one or two quarters. (For example, students
studying calculus should complete Math 201, 202, and 203
rather than just Math 201 and 202).
subject to the new requirements, as will sophomore transfer
students who enter in Fall 2004 and junior transfer students
who enter in Fall 2005.
The new Core includes 8
requirements, instead of 12, along with a language
requirement. Sophomore transfer students may complete 4
Core and the language requirement with transfer credit
while junior transfer students may complete 5 Core courses
and the language requirement with transfer credit.
All transfer credit used in a major or minor program is
subject to individual departmental review and approval.
Academic departments may require a transfer student to
complete an interview or examination before being placed
into a program of study. Based on a student’s placement,
transfer credit may be adjusted and a student required to
complete appropriate courses in residence. Again, students
are encouraged to contact the Office of Admission (253879-3211 or 800-396-7191) for assistance in planning their
transfer to Puget Sound.
NOTE: These listings only apply to regular course
offerings completed by regular college students.
Courses offered in other formats, such as programmedlearning, challenge examination, distance-learning, online, telecourses, or extension programs may not be
transferable. Additionally, college credit earned by a
student prior to high school graduation is subject to
special evaluation criteria and reviewed for transfer
credit on a case-by-case basis using both the high
school and college transcripts. Students should contact
the Admission Evaluator in the Office of the Registrar (253879-3219) for specific information.
Similarly, all Contracted, Cooperative, Cross Cultural,
Directed, Field, Honors, Independent, Seminar, Special,
Travel Studies, and other courses with variable content are
evaluated individually. Students completing such courses
may submit a syllabus or abstract to the Admission
Evaluator for review.
Because curriculum revisions may occur during the year, all
announcements are subject to change without notice.
Additionally, this agreement is not to be regarded as having
created a binding contract between the University and any
student or community college.
