Ready to Connect?
To ensure a safe computing environment, the university requires all computers connecting to the network to run updated anti-virus software
and have automatic updates enabled. Free downloads of anti-virus software are available at pugetsound.edu/tshelp.
Absolutely no illegal peer to peer file sharing is allowed.
Your Technology Resources
Every student is assigned a Puget Sound login to access the following resources:
Campus Network
myPugetSound
Connect using a campus port or by selecting PS-CampusAccess in
the list of wireless networks. Parents and other campus visitors can
connect through PS-GuestAccess.
myPugetSound is your new PeopleSoft portal for accessing
academic and administrative information at University of Puget
Sound. Here you can fill out your timesheet, view your grades or
financial aid information, and take care of university business, like
checking for holds or registering for classes—all without having to
sign in to PeopleSoft multiple times. Visit my.PugetSound.edu for
more information.
University-owned Computers
The university provides a variety of computer labs, including four
general access labs (two of which are available 24/7), a high-end
digital media lab with editing equipment for audio and video,
residence hall labs, and several discipline-specific labs. Computer
kiosks are available for use by campus members and visitors in Collins
Memorial Library, Memorial Fieldhouse, Wheelock Student Center,
and Wyatt Hall.
Moodle and Mahara
Moodle (moodle.pugetsound.edu) is an online resource for
academic engagement where many faculty post course information,
assignments, and other resources.
Email and Calendar
Mahara (mahara.pugetsound.edu)
gives students the ability to create e-portfolios showcasing their
academic work and co-curricular activities.
Network Storage
The university’s virtual desktop, vDesk (vdesk.pugetsound.edu),
provides students anytime, anywhere access to software such
as Microsoft Office and discipline-specific applications such as
Mathematica and SPSS. Students can use the campus intranet,
SoundNet (soundnet.pugetsound.edu), to collaborate and share
group information and individual interests within a safe,
protected environment.
Every student is assigned a Microsoft Exchange account with a 500
MB limit which can be accessed at webmail.pugetsound.edu or by
using an email client such as Outlook. As with most universities, Email
is a primary form of communication at Puget Sound, so be sure to
check your campus email account on a regular basis!
vDesk and SoundNet
Work done on vDesk can be saved to your own computer, but the
default location is the individual network storage of 4 GB which
the university provides to each student for storing and backing up
university-related files.
Purchasing Technology?
Be sure to visit pugetsound.edu/tspurchasing to get our recommendations and learn about discounted pricing on hardware and software available
to Puget Sound students. While we highly recommend students have a personal computer, please know it is not required as the university provides
all needed technology resources in easily accessible areas on campus.
Printing on Campus
The university provides printers in computing labs across campus. Each student is allocated 750 print credits per semester, which statistics show is
more than most students use. Beyond the allocation, additional prints cost 10¢ each.
Print and Copy Services offers a wide range of services, including color, wide format, and 3D printing. Visit pugetsound.edu/pcs for more information.
