FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Cynthia Burns: cyburns@ramapo.edu or Cathleen Davey; cdavey@ramapo.edu March 17, 2008 JOSE FRANCH-BALLESTER WILL PERFORM AT RAMAPO COLLEGE (Mahwah) – The York Room Salon Series will present Jose Franch-Ballester on clarinet Sunday, April 6 at 3 p.m. in the York Room on the campus of Ramapo College of New Jersey. Drawing on his experience performing tango and other popular genres, this young Spaniard has won multiple awards, including the 2004 Young Concert Artists International Audition. Born in Moncofa, Spain into a family of clarinetists and Zarzuela singers, the clarinetist has given recitals at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, the La Jolla Music Society (CA), the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts (FL), and Monmouth College (NJ). Franch-Ballester began clarinet lessons at the age of nine with Venancio Rius Marti. He gave his first recital in Valencia at the age of sixteen, and graduated from the Joaquin Rodrigo Music Conservatory in Valencia in 2000. He came to the United States to study at The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he earned a bachelor of music degree in 2005. Tickets are $15, which includes refreshments.
