UCL RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF
INSTITUTE OF EPIDEMIOLOGY & HEALTH CARE
The Institute of Epidemiology & Health Care strongly supports the UCL
Promotion and the UCL Mentoring Schemes for all staff groups. The UCL
Staff Appraisal review meeting is an ideal setting to think about and
discuss these two important aspects of your professional development.
PROMOTION
Promotion is the principal means by which UCL recognises and rewards the
outstanding achievements of non-professorial academic colleagues.
Have you considered going for Promotion or would you simply like more

MENTORING
Mentoring is ‘a planned pairing of a more skilled or experienced person with a
lesser skilled or experienced one, with the goal of the mentee developing
specific skills and knowledge to reach long-term objectives’.
All staff irrespective of grade within the Institute of Epidemiology & Health Care
have the opportunity to have a Mentor or indeed become a Mentor themselves.
