UCL Australia Role Description Principal Teaching Fellow – Level C A Principal Teaching Fellow is required to deliver excellence in both teaching and research in pedagogy at an internationally recognised level together with knowledge transfer/exchange and enabling. Main duties and responsibilities In addition to the requirements for a Senior Teaching Fellow the requirements of a Principal Teaching Fellow are: a) Academic leadership and to develop and motivate colleagues to work as part of a team to achieve departmental, faculty and UCL Australia and other institutional goals. b) To make a leading contribution to the formulation, monitoring, administration and review of departmental, faculty and institutional teaching and learning related strategies e.g. responsibility for the strategic development of a series of course modules and / or course programmes; involvement in driving forward international teaching and learning strategies; designing and managing peer observation within UCL Australia / other institutions. c) To introduce innovative and transformational changes to the curriculum and make a significant contribution to the skills and knowledge base in relation to teaching and learning within UCL Australia and / or the discipline. d) Active involvement in strategy development in relation to teaching and learning and involvement in / chairing of working parties as requested e.g. IQR Panels, participating in external quality audit teams. e) The management and development of the admissions process in UCL Australia. f) To exercise national leadership or be recognised as a national authority on the teaching of their subject, and the dissemination of scholarship e.g. through organising national seminars, workshops and/or conferences; regular contributions as a referee for journals in the area of teaching; sitting on editorial boards of appropriate journals; advising relevant professionals/professional bodies; publishing on practical, conceptual and theoretical aspects of own work. g) Leadership in widening participation and / or public engagement initiatives in UCL Australia. h) Leadership on equality action initiatives related to teaching and learning in UCL Australia. i) Contribution to national conferences in relation to the pedagogy of own work and that of others and involvement in national teaching bodies. j) Undertaking and overseeing a range of enabling and administrative tasks necessary to support the above duties. Key Requirements A Principal Teaching Fellow must have a PhD in a relevant discipline at the time of appointment. Graduate Certificate in Education (Higher Education) Membership of a relevant professional organisation. Proven track record of coordinating /drafting bids for both internal and external funding.
