WHEE Call U – Fall 2014 Campaign
This year we have approximately 1800 new first-year students and another 400 new transfer students to
contact. That is a lot of love to share! Sometimes a simple and personal call or email can make all the difference
as new students learn to navigate life as a college student. Perhaps you would enjoy the opportunity to be a part
of the success story for WCU’s newest family members! Lists will be distributed over the coming days and our
campaign committee is still hoping for 200 volunteers. If you would like to participate, please contact Glenda
this week!

Transfer Ambassadors
It’s a great time to be a Catamount for transfer students! Exciting changes are on the horizon here at Western
Carolina University for students transferring in from other institutions. With the advent of a new Transfer
Ambassador Program here at WCU, the Office of First Year Experience is bringing people together like never
before. With their own successful transition to WCU under their belts, Transfer Ambassadors are eager to help
others achieve the same great results they have had. Their unique perspectives allow these student advocates
to serve as a support network and to provide mentoring with special programs and opportunities tailored to the
needs of new transfer students. To learn more, please contact Janina DeHart, Assistant Director of Academic
Transition and Success in FYE. Contributed by Venice Mason

The CORE
The Red Zone refers to the period of time early in the first and second year at college during
which students are more at-risk for unwanted sexual experiences on college campuses. To
combat this, throughout this period of time, departments across Western Carolina
University sponsor programs to promote healthy relationships, and convey the message that
WCU does not tolerate abuse in our campus community. The campaign encourages and
empowers students, faculty and staff to develop an open dialogue on the dangers of sexual violence and to
speak up when they see violent behavior happening. To learn more about Red Zone and how to integrate it into
your class and conversations with students, please visit here. For the Calendar of Events, please visit here.
