Weekly reviews by your first-year peers of local restaurants, shops, places to go and more! So check it out each week to see new reviews to help you choose! ENJOY! Hot Springs by Sam Gammons Hot Springs Resort, Spa, and Campground is an amazing place to get away with friends and family to relax and take your mind off all the things the world throws your way. Hot Springs is located in Hot Springs, North Carolina, bordering the Pisgah National Forest. To get to this relaxation spot from Cullowhee, get on to I-40 and head east. Continue onto to I-40 east and head towards Knoxville, TN. Take exit 24 for N Carolina 209 toward Lake Junaluska/Hot Springs. You will then turn right onto N Carolina 209 N/Crabtree Rd, follow that road for 8.1 miles and then turn right onto N Carolina 209 N/Betsy's Gap Rd/State Hwy 209 and follow that road for approximately 24 miles. Go across the train tracks and Hot Springs Resort is on your left and the campground is on your right. The drive is very curvy, but the view throughout the drive, makes it worthwhile. While Hot Springs is located in the Western mountains of North Carolina, it also borders Spring Creek and the French Broad River. Yes the main attraction of this general area is the natural Hot Springs, but it has a small town known for its history and the intersection between the springs and the Appalachian Trail, one of the most well-known trails in the world. While most of the tourists are attracted to this place because of the 100 acre Resort & Spa, there is also one of the quietest, most comfortable campgrounds, you can find. The campground features places for RV hookups, tons of room for tents, and also eight cabins that all range from 2 people to up to 8 people. These cabins are not large, but they are very cozy, comfortable to sleep in, and for location and scenery, very affordable. All these locations border the French Broad River and are located 1/4 of a mile from the town. They also offer hot showers and clean bathrooms at the beginning of the camp site that are well kept and clean, making you not realize you're not at home, but what is the point in taking a shower and being clean? You're there to be in the outdoors and be dirty, that is why it is called the great OUTdoors. One of the greatest bonuses of this amazing spot is all the hiking trails it has to offer. The most well-known trail is the Lover's Leap Trail and the Appalachian Trail along the French Broad River. This specific trail is a 1.6 mile loop that takes you to the top of the mountain then descends back to the bottom. This trail offers some of the most amazing views, but none better than from the top of the mountain. With the elevation of 4629 feet, this view offers you a complete view of the entire town, the Appalachian Mountains, and the French Broad River. From beginning to end, the hike will take you approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. This hike makes you appreciate everything that has been put on this part of the world; it is truly a natural wonderland. Hot Springs makes you realize that everyone needs a little time for themselves to kick back and relax. Overall, this was one of the most scenic and coolest places I have ever been to. It is a place I would recommend to anybody, but especially someone who loves the outdoors and is appreciative of what we have been given.
