OPPORTUNITIES Discovery Forum Monday, April 22, from 5:30-8pm in Blue Ridge Hall The WCU Discovery Forum is part of an initiative launched by the N.C. State University-based Institute for Emerging Issues and BB&T. During the forum, nine student presenters selected by a special campus committee will present ideas to solve problems in the university and region. They will “pitch” their ideas in fiveminute presentations for an audience of community members, faculty, and students. Presentations will range from interdisciplinary ideas to areas in law, psychology, and sociology. The program will begin with a wine and cheese reception with heavy hors d’oeuvres. There will be 10minute breaks between every three presentations for time to interact with the presenters. At the end of the session, a panel of judges will choose the top two presentations for participation at the September 27 regional conference, “Connecting to Opportunity: How Regional Networks Shape Our Future” on Friday, Sept. 27. This concept was brought to our campus by Provost Angi Brenton, who was impressed with a Discovery Forum event she attended last year. I hope you will be able to join us at this inaugural event, the first of its kind in western North Carolina. Please RSVP by contacting Ms. Bonnie Beam at The Honors College office (beam@wcu.edu or 828.227-7383) by Monday, April 15.
