MESSAGE 1
HEALTH CONSCIOUS
Staying nutritionally sound and physically healthy are aspects of college life that affect multiple facets of your
overall well-being. Eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, and working out at the Campus Rec Center are
some key practices you can implement in your everyday life here on campus. Following are a few campus
resources that can help you gather information and develop healthy eating and lifestyle habits (as to avoid the
dreaded “freshman 15”) from the get-go:
The Dining Services website is a great resource that is always accessible to students online. You can check out
the Courtyard Dining Hall daily menu (which links to nutrition facts for each menu item listed) and browse the
“Fresh & Healthy” tab to read about developing a healthy lifestyle and even listen to nutrition podcasts!
The Campus Rec Center offers group exercise classes (Group X) to promote a fun workout environment with
your peers! Ten dollars will get you access to an entire semester of Group X classes-visit their website for a
rundown of the Fall 2012 schedule.
Of course, eating right and working out aren’t the only aspects of healthy living that are concerns for students.
A more holistic approach to well being can be explored through the Mind-Body Experiments workshop series.
The first workshop offered this semester is listed below.
What: Root Down to Reach Out Yoga
When: Wednesday, September 19, 7pm
Where: 2nd floor of the Campus Recreation Center
Here’s to healthy living!

FYE Bookmark Journey – 2012
WHAT’S THE POINT? ---- LEARNING GOALS
This journey should help you
1. Discover the physical location of the 15 resource sites.
2. Identify the primary purpose and function of each resource.
3. Understand how this resource is relevant to your college experience.
4. Integrate knowledge or skills learned from the resource into mapping a
successful college experience.
DOCUMENT the JOURNEY:
At each resource site you will find a box identified with the bookmark postcard. Inside
the box you will find clue cards. Take one and follow the directions on both sides.
On side one, write your name and follow the clue to answer
 WHO: Name of resource
 WHERE: Location (building)
 WHAT is the function or service of the resource?
 WHEN are they open to serve your needs?
 WHY is this resource important to you?
On side two, complete the second clue, and share your discoveries with your transition
course instructor per class instructions. Return your signed clue cards to your
instructor – this is the only way you can win!
HOW DOES THE CONTEST WORK?
Complete side 1 for all 15 locations and your name will be in a prize drawing.
Complete side 1 and side 2 for all 15 locations and your name will be in a drawing for an even better prize!
The class with the most completers will be in a drawing for a class ice-cream social.
