WCU’s Division of Student Services.
CEAP now has an Instagram account. Photos are being posted by students traveling with Dan Grube
and Nancy Luke from Germany. Lee can provide access to the account for students engaged in
activities which they would like to post to Instagram.
AACTE is holding a free webinar today at 1:00 pm on Twitter for Education.
Alvin is a part of a task force, chaired by Lowell Davis and Leroy Kauffman, reviewing guidelines for
accessing priority registration. The proposal will soon be sent to department heads and would limit
access to priority within groups; i.e., access for juniors within junior status students and not ahead of
seniors. This may serve as a reset for registration priority already in place.

building, listed in the governor’s proposal, was not listed in the house budget.
Contracts for fall adjuncts should be submitted so that continuing adjuncts will not lose email

Business Items
Assessment Committee recommendations from Climate Survey Results
Renee
The Assessment Committee has made two recommendations regarding the climate survey:
 Formalize a mentoring process for the College.
o Dale mentioned that “onboarding” is a part of the mentoring process. The council
members will engage in a further discussion on this topic.
 Build community across the college.
o Possibly hold monthly social gatherings and include food.
NCTQ Study
Dale
National Council on Teacher Quality has been in operation for a long time. This organization rates
both institutions and states on their preparation of teacher candidates. Most institutions are not rated
well. In the past information requests sent to WCU have been referred to legal counsel. UNC GA has
entered into an agreement with NCTQ to study, compare, and validate UNC system school teacher
performance ratings to NCTQ ratings. Dale provided a copy of Summary data of NCTQ Value-Added
and Evaluation Rating Results which were released recently by the Education Policy Initiative at
Carolina.
NC New Teacher Support
Dale
The North Carolina New Teacher Support network has assigned support to Asheville Middle School,
and Yancey and McDowell County Schools. School systems are being asked to contribute $2000 to
support instructional coaches. GEAR UP will continue. Dale has been in conversation with other
school systems to assess interest.
At a recent Beginning Teachers coordinators’ meeting, it was noted that Haywood County expects to
have more than 50 new teachers next fall.
Dale asked for feedback on how we can keep up with our graduates and provide support postgraduation. Psychology keeps in touch more so with graduate students. Human Services contact is
primarily reference based. Dale asked that program advisory groups be tasked with exploring student
contact post-graduation. Dale would like for CEAP capstone courses to invite him to speak to students
so that contact can be made prior to graduation. The Psychology Colloquium provides a venue for
presenting research and an opportunity for connections between students, faculty and others. This is
one type of opportunity type that could be expanded to other programs.
CAEP Meetings for Fall Pre-visit
Kim
Gearing up for fall CAEP visit, there will be a few logistics/informational meeting opportunities for
faculty and staff. Kim suggested 10:00 AM, Friday, August 21 or Monday 24 and a second meeting
Friday, September 18 or Monday, September 21. Fridays were deemed to be a better day.
Interview with Phyllis Robertson for Interim DH for Human Services
All
Leadership Council members met with Phyllis Robertson who is interviewing for Interim Department
Head in Human Services.
