Purpose To support early-career investigators conduct a research project into any aspect of pathology. 2. Funding source RCPA Foundation Fund. 3. Value One award of AUD$50,000. 4. Payments Usually provided as two payments to a nominated account; one at the commencement of the project and the second in the following year. 5. Applicant eligibility Trainees enrolled with the College or a Fellow of the College or its Faculties of less than seven years standing. 6. Project eligibility A single research project in medical science that is relevant to any aspect of pathology, with preference given to translational projects; and the project is undertaken either in an accredited pathology service or under the supervision of an accredited pathologist. 7. Allowable costs Equipment costs. Consumable costs. Salaries. Other non-salary costs. 8. Excluded costs Costs that are not directly related to the proposed project. 9. Timeline of project The project should be completed within two years of the granting of the Award. 10. Method of application Submission of an application by 30 June each year (refer to Guide for Applicants for RCPA Foundation Awards). Provide a single PDF file with: Statement of support from Head of Department hosting the research. Specific area to be studied with relevant background information including references; Outline of proposed project; Proposed timeframe for completion of project; Outline of budget, indicating how the award will be utilised and other sources of funding (include equipment, technical and clerical assistance); Whether the project is self contained or is part of a larger study; Any associated approvals for human or animal ethics. Applicants are advised that work cannot be permitted to commence in the absence of relevant approvals 11. Co-applications An applicant may only apply to the Foundation for one award or grant per calendar year. Preference will be given to applicants who are not in receipt of other grants. The RCPA Foundation must be advised of additional funding sources obtained for the project subsequent to granting of this Award. 12. Assessment 13. Calibre of application. The clinical utility and application of the research project. The achievability in the timeframe stated. The scientific basis for the project. The evidence for the direction of the project from published work (if any). Decision Applications are assessed by the RCPA Foundation Grants Sub Committee with specialty input as required. The Award is granted by the RCPA Foundation Board. The RCPA Foundation reserves the right to not make an Award in a given year. 14. Notification Applicants will be advised in writing of the outcome of their applications by 30 September in the year in which they applied. The successful applicant will be invited to attend the RCPA Admission of New Fellows and Awards Ceremony in the following year at which the Award will be formally recognised. 15. Reporting The RCPA Foundation must be acknowledged in any presentation or publication arising from this activity. The Foundation must be advised of such publications or presentations. The applicant must provide a brief progress report (300-500 words) within 12 months of commencing the study. The applicant must provide a brief non-technical final report (300-500 words) within 20 months of commencing the study. 16. Concessions The RCPA Foundation may relax or modify these requirements in special circumstances or to avoid hardship to a candidate for or recipient of an Award. 17. Suspension The RCPA Foundation Board may at any time suspend or terminate an Award or require the forfeiture of the Award emolument as the Board may determine, if it is satisfied that the recipient is not diligently pursuing the proposed project or has failed to comply with any of the terms and conditions on which the Award was granted. 2
