Deans’ Council Meeting Faculty Line Requests Held: June 18, 2013 Attendees: B. Barnett, L. Chakrin, E. Saiff, S. Rosenberg, S. Perry, S. Rice and C. Romano. Line Requests for Upcoming Year TAS – (1) Is seeking to replace Dr. Arthur Felix (Chemistry) who retired at the end of the spring 2012 semester. ASB – (2) Not seeking to replace Stephen Klein (Information Technology Management), even though he is retiring at the end of this month; but seeking to replace Rick Nunez (Management) who is leaving Ramapo. Requesting one new faculty line in Marketing and permission to retain one faculty line in Management. Marketing – in need of faculty member with expertise in social media, digital marketing and web search optimization. Management - Rick Nunez ’areas of expertise were innovation and entrepreneurship and there is no one in the school who can currently take his place. The group recommended that, because Rick Nunez did not hold tenure, the line would go back to ASB. SSHS – (2) is seeking two faculty members – one in Social Work and one in Social Science. Requesting a faculty member to work in the MSW program and teach. This is especially necessary if Ramapo receives permission for the Master of Science in Social Work Masters program. Also requesting a faculty member to teach in Social Science Major which includes the contract major which is growing. No faculty are currently assigned to this major. CA (3) – Requesting one music line and two communication arts lines. Enrollment in the two majors is steady or growing. Communications is one of the largest majors at the college, and music has grown over the years. The music line would cover the core requirement for musicianship and supervision of music performance and theory. More students are interested in orchestra and music education and this line would support those interests. There has been a strong and growing interest from students for either a concert band or an orchestra and the position in music could pave the way for this. Two lines in Communication Arts – Public Communication – looking for someone in rhetoric, public speaking, strategic communications, someone who can work in new social media platforms. Professional media writing – knowledgeable in new areas of media and information distribution and social and digital media and essential skills of writing. SSAIS (2) Tenure track line for assistant professor of international studies with a focus on global health and an Instructor in Italian Studies. The international studies position would serve existing programs and would help link to STEM fields; wouldalso serve science and cultural perspectives. Would serve International Studies but also a range of minors in SSAIS or any of the medical or social science fields. The Italian studies position is not tenure track. There are 7 – 9 courses in Italian history and culture taught each semester. Most of these course are taught by adjuncts. It is a popular course of study and would benefit from having a full-time instructor. Beth will send out a form for voting on these positions to all deans. Deans are encouraged to send their position proposals to all deans and provost.
