Campus Climate Survey 2012
As part of Ramapo College’s commitment to campus climate, the Diversity Action
Committee (DAC) collects data approximately every five years in order to assess which
efforts to support diversity have succeeded and also to assess aspects of campus life that
need to be improved. The Campus Climate Survey solicits feedback from faculty, staff,
and students on a broad range of topics including, but not limited to, discrimination,
harassment, and the extent to which diverse perspectives are represented in the
classroom. The goal of the survey is to use results to ensure Ramapo’s environment is
supportive and inclusive for all individuals in our community.
We all have a stake in the continued success of the College, and it is essential that we
gather your opinions via the Campus Climate Survey. To that end, Educational
Benchmarking Inc. (EBI) will be administering this confidential survey. A campus wide
e-mail with a link to the survey will be sent on February 6. While the survey is
comprehensive in scope, it is also concise and should take only 20 minutes to complete.
The last Campus Climate Survey was conducted at Ramapo in 2006. It concluded that
that while the College had several challenges in regard to diversity issues, these
challenges were also commonly found in higher education institutions across the country.
The College has used this data over the years to inform its programming, services,

1. Where can I take the survey?
Every member of the Ramapo community will receive an email invitation to take the survey. This email
will contain instructions as well as a link to the survey. This survey is administered online, so you may
complete it on any computer on or off campus. Additionally, we will be holding an Open House where
DAC will provide computers and in-person support. The open house will take place in SC136 on Monday,
February 27 and Tuesday, February 28, from 8 AM to 8 PM both days.
2. What is the purpose of the campus climate survey?
The purpose of the campus climate survey is to gather data on Ramapo campus experiences with diversity.
The Diversity Action Committee collects these data approximately every five years in order to assess which
efforts to support diversity have succeeded and also aspects of campus life that need to be improved. The
goal is to use results to ensure Ramapo’s environment is supportive and inclusive for all individuals in our
community.
3. Who is eligible to participate in the survey?
All undergraduate and graduate students as well as all full and part-time staff and faculty at Ramapo.
4. Why is my participation important?
A fundamental diversity initiative is to make sure all voices, from all backgrounds and experiences, are
heard. We need to know your concerns regarding Ramapo’s treatment of diversity.
5. Who is administering the survey?
Educational Benchmarking Inc. (EBI) will be administering the survey. EBI is an outside survey
organization that provides campus climate surveys to colleges and universities. You can find out more

6. How will confidentiality be maintained?
Your responses will remain confidential. EBI will collect your responses independently from Ramapo.
Ramapo will only be given a report of the summarized results and will not have access to your individual
results. You need to use the link from your Ramapo E-mail to access the survey, and the purpose of this
link is to ensure you only complete the survey once. Your email address will not be connected to your
responses in any way. E-mail addresses will be stored separately from the survey data and there will be no
ability to match survey data to E-mail addresses. EBI will not collect your IP address information.
7. If I start the survey but am interrupted before I finish, can I access it again?
Yes. Your answers will be stored each time you submit them. If you need to stop the survey, you can come
back to the survey by clicking on your link.
8. What language translations are available?
We have a Spanish version available. This version will be accessible during Open House. If you need the
survey in an additional language, please contact Leah Warner at lwarner@ramapo.edu.
9. Where can I request disability-related accommodations?
Disability related accommodations are available through the Office of Specialized Services located in C 205 - extension 7514.
10. What will the Diversity Action Committee do with the results?
Once we get a report from EBI, we will share the survey results with the entire community, including
possible town hall style meetings to discuss supporting diversity efforts on campus. We will assess the
results in terms of Ramapo’s strengths and weaknesses.
The results will affect both DAC’s own programming as well as the advice DAC gives to the various
constituents on campus regarding their own diversity efforts.
