The Office of the Provost ERRATA For the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) September 6, 2007 Subsequent to the submission of Western Carolina University’s QEP, Synthesis: A pathway to intentional learning, the following changes need to be incorporated in the original plan: PAGE 5 INSERT – before “Our emphasizing of synthesis builds…” The Synthesis Strategic Plan (1995), sponsored by the National Science Foundation and a coalition of universities and colleges known as the Synthesis Coalition, brings together disparate conceptual schemes related to synthesis to create an applied framework for engineering and science education delivery systems. Specifically, this framework includes the constructivist learning model of Lawson (1989)……. PAGE 5 INSERT – before “It also values a learner-centered approach……” Like the Synthesis Coalition, the work of the QEP draws upon this same literature. Unlike this coalition, the QEP attempts to create a broader educational framework that reaches across several disciplines and general education.
