5.2 Verifying Trig. Identities
Things to try when proving Trig. identities
­ work with one side of the equation at a time (usually the more complicated side)
­ Look for opportunities to factor an expression, add fractions, create a monomial denominator
­Look for identities to substitute in. Look at which functions are in the final expression to help decide which identity.
­ If the above doesn't help, try putting everything in terms of sine and cosine.
­ Always try something, see where it goes as there are many answers. 1
