Summer 2014 Congratulations! UCL joins WISE: UCL has recently become a member of WISE. WISE run training events, and support industry and the education sector to recruit and retain female students and staff into science. You can also advertise events or information in the WISE newsletter, for example, UCL recently advertised our Graduate Support Bursary Scheme. WISE also run the WISE awards for women in science – please see the 2014 awards website for information on categories and how to nominate. The deadline for nominations is Friday 22nd August. ‘Your Life’ campaign: UCL has signed up to the ‘your life’ campaign. This is a new initiative is aiming to bring together businesses, educators and the government to promote STEM careers, and to retain women in STEM careers. Signatories commit to helping women and girls into studying and pursuing careers in maths, physics, technology and engineering. Professor McKendry is based in the London Centre for Nanotechnology at UCL. Last year’s medallist was Sarah-Jayne Blakemore from UCL’s Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience Congratulations to Deborah Gill, Interim Director, UCL Medical School, who was awarded the Women in the City Future Leaders Award.
