Calling All Greeks,
On February 21st, 2014 Historically Black Greek-Lettered Organizations from all over the state will convene at
the University of North Carolina Wilmington for the 16th Port City Step Show! This event is the high light of
what is sure to be a dynamic Homecoming Week. This promises to be the best step show the Port City has ever
seen!
Teams bold enough to compete in this fierce competition are required to submit an application, along with a
$100 non-refundable processing fee by December 13th, 2013, or $150 nonrefundable late processing fee by
January 31st, 2014. Please make all cashier’s checks or money orders payable to UNCW National PanHellenic Council.
Applications & processing fee must be RECEIVED by Friday, January 31st, 2014. An application packet
has been included for your convenience. Please mail all entry materials to:

The application process is complete once UNCW has received a completed application form and a
non-refundable cashier’s check or money order for $100 by December 13th, 2013, or $150 by January
31st, 2014.
Once your team’s application and processing fee has been received, you will be notified and given additional

General Information
The University of North Carolina Wilmington’s National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the
Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE) present the 16th Port City Step Show.
This year’s competition winner will be awarded a cash prize of $1000.00 for first place and $500.00
for second place.
Who Can Participate
The competition is limited to only recognized members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and only
pre-registered groups are allowed to perform. Only one chapter per organization will be allowed to
step, the chapters stepping will be determined on a first come basis. There are absolutely no walk-ons
allowed. In order to register, the enclosed form must be completed and returned to the University of
North Carolina Wilmington.
Rules
1. All competing groups must apply by the Friday, January 31st, 2014 deadline.
2. All team members must be recognized members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
3. Performance slots will be randomly selected by UNCW. Teams will be notified of their
performance order by February 5th . Groups may not exchange performance slots.
4. Each team will have a total of 15 minutes to perform (including intro & exit). The time keeper
will start the clock when the first team member steps in full view of the judges and/or when the
music/vocals/video begins.

Any team that occupies the stage after the 15 minutes will have a point deducted from the
overall score for every additional minute a group is on the stage.
6. All stage props must be approved by UNCW at practice prior to the show. All participating
teams must provide written description specifying any special equipment needs on the
registration form.
7. The highest & lowest judging scores will be eliminated. The highest team average wins.
8. All teams must report to scheduled practice session on time or they will forfeit their
opportunity for a complete dress rehearsal.

If a team member exhibits grossly un-sportsmanlike, extremely disrespectful, or sexually
explicit behaviors at any time during the show, the team will be disqualified.

All teams will be notified and given additional information about the step show by Wednesday,
February 5th, 2014.
Judging
Groups are judged by a panel of 9 Greek judges (one from each organization) and 2 non-affiliated
judges. The non-affiliated judges will chair the panel. A scoring sheet is included for your review and
preparation. All judges’ decisions are final.
Judges will score teams based on 9 criteria and will submit their score sheet immediately following
each 15 minute performance. The highest & lowest scores will be eliminated, and the remaining 9
scores will be averaged to determine each team’s total score.
Cash Prizes
Be mindful that “cash” means that the prize is money, not merchandise. All prizes must be processed
through the university’s accounting system, so it may take up to two weeks to receive payment in the
form of a university check to your group. In order to receive the check; please ensure that all
information on the application form is complete and accurate. If a full mailing address & Tax
ID#/Social Security # is not provided by February 14th, 2014, the winning teams will not receive
their checks.
