Legend
L-StEP
Labor Students Educating Peers - was an initiative in the
2011 DHLI strategic plan. In these events, faculty work with
their classes and create a campus-wide labor educational
event.
Simulations
Role-playing workshops in which students play different
roles. Thus far, DHLI runs 3 simulations. A. Collective
bargaining (students play roles of negotiators in a union
contract negotiation). B. NLRB election (students role-play a
townhall meeting where they must convince each other and
vote on whether or not to choose to be represented by a
union. C. 1934 Strike - students play the role of the different
interest groups in the 1934 Longshore workers strike in San
Francisco. They must decide on whether or not to support
as community members, they will support the strike or not.
V&I
Voices and Images - Any event put together by DHLI staff,
students, or faculty. In the past, the most common V&I
events have been classroom guest-lecturers from the labor
movement. They have also included campus-wide events.
In 2014-15, DHLI did many events around the issues of
wage theft and raising the minimum wage. Also on the
gender pay gap in collaboration with 9to5. DHLI has also
hosted one-man plays with Ian Ruskin and the Harry Bridges
Project in collaboration with faculty at different campuses.
