Lack of clarity in the project. Shortage of ideas as for projects. Not knowing how to do it. Ways to promote attendance at an event: Give extra credit to encourage turn out. Asking faculty to bring their classes. Attach yourself to student group to do the same thing and have the student group do some of the organizing. They can do the research, figure out the time, space, etc. As the faculty, you can check in with the students as to how it’s going. This allows students to see that they can put these events together themselves. Suggestions for Improvements Develop quick way to let others know what StEP is Present a workshop at convocation to recruit for StEP/DHLI. Call forms feedback instead of report Use adjuncts, pay them Use student clubs Use the AFT interns are (Rebecca will send out intern info) L-StEP Spring 2012 Commitments: Joe, Glenn, Jose, James, Paul, Kristin, Darren, Zack, Haydee, Voices & Images - Potential themes for Spring 2012 Chosen privatization/Publicazation? (Vivian Price will write up theme definition and circulate for feedback) Other themes considered: jobs for veterans, Labor and the war, Movie “Won’t Back Down”, Feminized jobs, March in March. District Wide Poster Contest – (Shigueru & James will explore idea) You can have a photo essay. Every year we have a Labor and Social Justice Fair in April. Vivian can work with the faculty to create an assignment where students come to a 4-year university to display it. Commitments for Spring 2012: Ellen, James, Kristin, Pat, Zack Collective Bargaining Educational Project: Commitments for Spring 2012: Ellen Course Development: Kristin Wright will look into developing Sociology of Labor at Southwest sometime in the future Resources Ideas for resources: Small group activity that launches a lecture DVD archive that has to do with labor that faculty can use. Online database with info about labor. PowerPoint slides that explain different things about labor. Web Links. labor view of whatever election that is coming up.
